Skip cakey look by choosing right makeup base

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 28 Februari 2015 | 18.47

Layers of wrongly chosen makeup can make you end up looking cakey. Get your hands on the right make-up base to look flawless, says an expert.

"Every skin type is different. You have different foundations for fair, light and medium skin tone; again it is categorised into dry, oily and combination skin. Getting your base right is very important," make-up artist Annalia Zhimomi told IANS.

She says for dry flaky skin, don't use powder.

"Creme based or a liquid foundation rich in moisture is perfect for dry flaky skin. Use it with the help of a moist sponge. This will keep the dry skin in place and give a smooth finish. Any other way of applying foundation for dry skin will lead to flaking of the skin," she warned.

Women with normal to combination skin, can also use creme or liquid foundation. Again, a moist sponge will be helpful. Then seal your foundation with the help of loose or pressed powder. This will help your foundation to last all day.

Those with oily skin should apply foundation with the help of a buffing (for medium to full coverage) or stippling brush (if its less coverage) in circulation motion, she suggests.

Lastly, seal your foundation with powder.

Book Review: One For The Road

Book: One For The Road
Author: Biula V Cruz e Pereira
Publisher: Goa 1556
Pages: 320
Price: Rs.350

Goa and alcohol have a complex equation, but there could be a lot of misunderstanding over this, a new book published on the subject suggests.

In Goa, alcohol plays a significant role as a "social lubricant" and is considered essential for hospitality, says the book, "One For The Road" authored by Biula V Cruz e Pereira, associate professor of sociology Fr Agnel's College in Pilar, some 10 km from here.

She asks in her book: Why is alcohol consumption at bars frowned upon even though it is permitted at occasions and parties? Why do only men visit Goan bars? How did the labelling of deviants and addicts - the term used in the local Konkani language is 'bebde' - come about?

Rituals and beliefs are associated with distillation. In Goa, alcohol, interestingly enough, is used in medicine and antiseptics, in deliveries and childcare, as an appetizer, an antiflatulent, for deworming, to treat colds and fevers - and as an analgesic.

Alcohol goes into food as an ingredient here. Feni, the traditional brew, and vinegar, made here from coconut toddy to add the sourish taste to food, goes into meat preparations, as a preservative, in Goan sausages and fish preparations. Wine is used in cakes, while 'sur' (toddy) goes into leavening.

In Goa, feni gets used to ward off "evil eye", and to mark the 'xim' (a boundary marked at the time of marriages). Alcohol or sur offerings also play other roles in religion, both Catholic and Hindu. Feni is used at the crematorium at times, or even for exorcism.

Goan Catholics, says the book, have assimilated the use of alcohol in their daily life and celebrations. Goan Hindus, whose attitudes are similar to those in the rest of the country, however do not condemn alcohol consumption by others. A growing number of Hindus, particularly younger, consume alcohol in individual settings or as part of socialisation.

She says it is clear that alcohol existed in Goa before the Portuguese arrived here, though the alcohol industry "flourished in Goa during Portuguese rule".

'Situational drinking' is another area needing understanding, while the social norms of - and attitudes to - alcohol consumption are also explained.

"Public opinion plays an important role in labelling a person an alcoholic... In Goan society, a bebdo is a person addicted to alcohol of any kind, who drinks excessively till he loses motor control and cannot retain a regular job," Pereira notes.

She discusses accepted norms on drinking to socialise, the acceptable age for drinking and the timing of drinking. Modes for serving alcohol, group formation, and who serves the drinks are also focussed on.

Décor ideas for creating a statement wall

Creating a statement wall, or even just filling a blank space, does not have to be limited to only putting some paintings. Push your creative boundaries. From hanging a rug on the wall to bold paints, mirrors, you can play with your imagination and see a reflection of your personality on your wall.

Rug it: A beautiful rug adds lots of character to the wall. So, choose a rug keeping in mind the dominant colours of your room and see the difference.

Textile wonders: India is a treasure house of textiles. So, go ahead and buy a textile wall piece from Gujarat, Rajasthan or Andhra Pradesh. Frame it and hang it on the wall. Similarly, you can also frame dupattas also and add your own signature style to your wall decor.

Map it: A map can be both decorative and sentimental when you mark the places you have visited or intend to visit.

Get bold with paint: You can simply paint the wall a bold color or take a tip from our inspirational image and only paint it halfway for a color blocked effect.

Play with your imagination: If you are artistically inclined— or know someone who is— hand painted details can be beautiful. You need not always go for white or cream. You can go bold and paint the wall in bright red, orange, blue. And just see how much appreciation you get for this dramatic effort.

For memory sake: What's a home without celebrating memories? Put photographs of yesteryears on the wall and make it a conversation starter with your guests. And when life becomes a little tough, just looking at these photographs will make you feel nice.

Gender equality in comics soon?

We've seen them thrill fans and dominate screen space for ages and now, that tradition might take a historic turn.

If a young girl's plea has its way — you may no longer see just Batman and Superman hog all the limelight. The 11-year-old fifth-grader from Illinois, Rowan Hansen, has written to a comics company to question why only male superheroes get to have all the fun. She wants more superheroes to be women and with all the costumes too! She wrote, "I love your comics, but I would love them a lot more if there were more girls. I'm a girl and I'm upset that there aren't many girl superheroes or movies or comics. There are many Superman and Batman movies, but not a Wonder Woman one. Please do something about this, girls read comics too." Her parents, English professors at a University, said Rowan has been aware of gender inequity for years. And ever since her father posted her letter online, it went viral!

What it kick-started
It's the age of equality and gender-bending and this has created a furore of sorts. Folks have been writing on a microblogging site, showing solidarity and agreeing with Rowan. Some even shared their daughters pictures dressed as superheroes. One of them, Jessie Bennett wrote, 'Thanks Rowan for being an awesome role model for my daughter LilyLynn.' Another user posed with her daughter, dog and herself dressed as Wonder Women and wrote, 'We are Wonder Mom, Wonder Daughter, and Wonder Dog.' It was a show of strength for another parent, who put up a picture of her daughter and her friends who are diabetic, and said, 'A pic of our daughter & 2 friends — all 3 have type 1 diabetes & are definitely superheroes!' Appearing on a talk show, Rowan added, "If Batman gets to wear armour, then why doesn't Wonder Woman get to wear armour? I know that she's kind of invulnerable, but it would still be nicer if she didn't have to wear a bathing suit all the time." Is the new movement going to get women kick some ass for a change? We sure hope so!

Cosmetic treatments like scar camouflage, eyebrow enhancement and lip correction are no longer a woman's domain. Here are a few beauty procedures that men can opt for...

Going in for beauty treatments to enhance and contour facial features are getting quite popular amongst men these days, especially with beauty professionals and salons designing treatments that work for men.
Dr Geeta Oberoi, dermatologist says, "Semi-permanent makeup, which is also popularly known as Micro-pigmentation, is a boon for men in today's day and age. It is an advanced cosmetic technique, which employs hypo-allergic colours into the dermis that then treats the skin."

VARIOUS TREATMENTS AVAILABLE FOR MEN

Eyebrow and eyelash enhancement: Men, who have scanty or nil eyebrows or eyelashes, can go in for this treatment, which is done using micro-pigmentation technology that will give you a perfectly-shaped natural looking brow.
Scar camouflage: Various scars — be it the one caused by acne or an injury — can be treated using the micro-pigmentation or RF technology. Dermatologist Dr D Ganguly says, "This technique helps lighten scars and marks of any kind. This treatment is done over a period of time and may require four to five sessions, depending on how deep or light the scar is."
Hair simulation: Experiencing hair loss can cause a reduction in confidence and low self-esteem. Thus, with the help of hair simulation technique, which is also known as a micro-tattooing technique, one can have their hair growth regenerated. The actual texture of the hair, shape and growth of the hair is mapped by professionals for them to work on and takes about six to seven sittings (depending on hair growth). Fuller lips: Achieving plumper and healthy lips is one such treatment that both men and women like to go in for. Says Dr Oberoi, "Men who have thin upper lips or darker lips usually prefer to go in for this treatment. These are permanent fillers and take about a month or so to be treated. Further, if one desires to get their lip-line shaped, this is also done along with this treatment."

POST TREATMENT CARE
Increase the intake of fluids: You should keep drinking water or fresh fruit and vegetable juices to detox your system. Normally, after treatment is done, it dehydrates your body, which then needs plenty of fluids to replenish the system.
One treatment at a time: It is usually said that after you get a cosmetic treatment done, you should ideally wait for two to six months before going in for another treatment. It will reduce the effect of the treatment that you've undergone and delay the results.
Consult a doctor, in case you need aid: Most of the times, people often notice side-effects a week or two later after they've undergone any sort of skin or hair treatment. If this happens, consult a doctor immediately and do not take medication on your own.

Best ways of taking care of your leather shoes

We all adore our leather shoes, but they need care. This is how you should take care of them.

Leather shoes are surely one of the prized possessions of every man. While we all love them, they also require some taking care so that they last longer and still look their best. So here are few tips of taking care of your leather shoes without having to spend too much:

Avoid water: That's right. You need to avoid bringing your leather shoes in contact with water as it can damage the leather. The leather not only goes rough but also becomes harder after coming in contact with water. You can also apply water repellant polish.

Moisturize your shoes: There are good quality moisturizers available in the market that will keep your shoes looking new for a long time. Use them on a regular basis and this will help your shoes in good condition for a long time.

Ensure using quality products: We all know that using quality products does make a difference. So make sure you use best quality shoe polish, or moisturizers or even water repellant creams so that the leather is not damaged. Avoid getting your shoes polished outside, instead use your own branded products.

Protect the laces differently: Always remove the laces when you are using any of the above mentioned products. Laces are different material and not necessarily will agree with the products the leather does. Keep your laces clean for a better over all look.

Prep your hair for Holi

Kasmin Fernandes, TNN | Feb 26, 2015, 04.31PM IST

Holi - the festival of colours and love is just around the corner. Follow these simple steps from celebrity hair stylist Asgar Saboo to ensure you have a great celebration without worrying about any hair damage.

Holi hair prep tips by celebrity hair stylist Asgar Saboo:

Ensure you protect your hair before going out - a natural oil-based head massage will do the trick. Get the oil of your choice (coconut, castor, macadamia) and massage it all the way throughout the hair. This will help to prevent colour dye from coming into direct contact with hair and will lessen the damage.

After the oil mask, wash the hair with shampoo to remove any excess oil and blow-dry.

Wear a head-scarf or a hat to protect your hair from getting tangled and from coming into contact with artificial colours.

Whilst playing at Holi, make sure to tie your hair. Easy and simple hairstyles like the French braid, side ponytail or a bun are practical yet fashionable too.

If you have coloured or highlighted hair, you need to use a special, colour protecting shampoo for your hair.

After the celebrations, wash your hair with warm water until the colour dye comes off. Then use a paraben-free shampoo and conditioner to rinse any leftover colour. Do not worry if some of the colours remain on your scalp, as it might take up to two days to fade away.

Make sure you don't wash your hair twice on the same day, as it can cause it to become dry and brittle.

5 lunchtime beauty treatments for busy women

Short duration dermal treatments are a boon to working women, who are opting for quick fixes to take years off their face.

These treatments do not impinge on their working hours, nor do they have to take a day off for it. Here's a lowdown.

Ultherapy Courteney Cox and Kim Kardashian went through this newest non-surgical process in the market called Ultherapy that uses tiny electric shocks to tighten the skin on the eyebrows, face and neck. Fairly new in India, it uses ultrasonic therapy for collagen renewal of the skin. "This minimally invasive technique heats up the subcutaneous tissue at different levels, thus shrinking the skin and making it look younger," says senior cosmetic surgeon Dr. Mohan Thomas. Cosmetic dermatologist and laser surgeon Dr. Apratim Goel adds, "Ultherapy uses HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) to contour the face. Rather than tiny electric shocks, it feels like deep dermal heating." The treatment is suitable on all skin types. Time taken: It takes an hour to an hour-and-a-half, so it can even be done during lunchtime. Drawback: This method could lead to hyper pigmentation or cause burns sometimes.

Micro-needling In this process, a derma roller with multiple fine needles induces collagen and treats acne and scars, thus resulting in smooth skin. Cosmetic dermatologist and laser specialist Dr. Abhijit Desai says, "Post giving topical anaesthesia on the face, the roller is rolled on the desired area till the condition of pinpoint bleeding. The micro injury on the skin surface leads to collagen stimulation, followed by improved skin texture. This provides long-term results and needs approximately three-four sessions." Time taken: The entire procedure lasts for 15-20 minutes, depending on the area being treated. Drawbacks: It can cause redness and soreness of skin.

Microdermabrasion It is basically an exfoliation and skin rejuvenation procedure that leaves the skin looking softer and brighter. Dermatologist and skin specialist Dr. Sushil Tahiliani says, "Dead cells are removed from the skin surface using a suction device or by spraying diamond crystals or zinc powder onto the skin. It gives temporary results for one or two weeks, but is safe." This is a less aggressive technique. Time taken: It takes 30-45 minutes or 45-60 minutes, depending on the depth of the treatment. Drawbacks: "The procedure used here is a little harsh," says Dr Goel, adding, "Sensitive skins can experience rash or even scratch marks. It can also cause acne."

Mesotherapy An old technique, the basic idea behind Mesotherapy is to inject medication for lipolysis. It can be done on both the skin and the scalp. Aesthetic physician Dr. Jamuna Pai explains, "Fine little openings are made using a needle or derma roller or a meso-gun. This, in the end, leads to a uniform glowing skin and tighter contours. Cocktails are used on the hair. Mesotherapy is also done to dissolve the subcutaneous fat or lipoma." This process does not have many benefits, except the hydration of the intradermis, says Pai. Time taken: Each session is convenient and quick, lasting for approximately 20-30 minutes. Drawback: There are short-term side effects.

Notox A non-invasive beauty treatment, the effects of Notox are often said to be more long-lasting than Botox. "It is a minimally invasive surgical procedure, wherein the nerves supplying the facial muscles on the forehead are damaged using radio waves. Consequently, it causes smoothening of face, wrinkle reduction and Botox-like effects without injecting toxin. Almost painless, there are no side effects," explains Dr. Goel. Time taken: It takes about 20-30 minutes. Drawback: Dr. Goel says that if the wrong muscle is paralysed, the effects can be damaging and long term.

Dos and Don’ts of buying art online

Written By Unknown on Kamis, 26 Februari 2015 | 18.48

Interested in buying art for your space? And now the easiest option is to go for online art buying. Here are the guidelines for people who are buying art online

For some (first time buyers) going to gallery is scary, for some (regular small time collectors ) going to buy art is tiresome and for some (professional segment ) going to buy art doesn't figure in their busy schedule. But there's a solution to all this problem. These days, one can buy art online. The process is easy and safe. Ahmedabad based art promoter and entrepreneur Chaitya Dhanvi Shah points out some do's and don'ts before you get into online buying

Dos

1. Always make sure you buy from a reputed online site.

2. The founder / CEO of the site must be into the art business and have knowledge regarding how to collect and have variety in its inventory.

3. Compare various styles and various artists before zeroing down one.

4. Quality is the key. Spend some time online on the same site before buying. Have a look at different artworks of the same artist. Think. Then again have a look at different artist. Think. That will make your selection of quality artwork easier.

5. Read about the artist. Learn about his/her technique and style before buying.

6. Read carefully all the details about the artworks like size, year, medium and the like mentioned on the website. To avoid last minute tension by ordering a limited edition signed serigraph and end up getting a reproduction. The most important thing is to visualize the artwork for whatever purpose you wish to buy before ordering it.

7. Get the size of the artworks right into your mind and only then order it.

8. Always ask for authentication certificate.

9. Once the artwork reaches you immediately open it up from the roll form and get it in flat form for some time. Lesser the time the artwork is in roll form is good for its longevity.

Don'ts

1. Don't get trapped into big names that are associated with the online gallery.

2. Fakes of masters or reputed artists are circulated in huge numbers in the name of affordable art.

3. Don't buy masters even if you are getting it for too cheap. Cheaper the product chances of it being fake are highest.

4. Do not compare the price with the size of one artist with another. Mainly all artists have different pricing based on their experience and work.

5. Do not reproduce in any format like photographic print or scanning the artwork once you buy it and then re-sale/sale it. All the artworks are protected under copyright.

Chennai boy to set his third Guinness record

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 25 Februari 2015 | 18.47

Medvin Deva is just a nine-year-old boy... did we say 'just'?

Quash that, for Medvin is a hero to his classmates for his manoeuvering skating skills. He started skating at the age of three, and now, this Chennai boy is on his way to setting his third record in the Guinness Book of World Records for attempting limbo skating 72 metres under 73 poles at a height of 10 inches off the ground. So, what has Medvin, to say about his feat? "My friends said, 'Semma da, we saw your picture in newspapers'," says Medvin, shrugging off his successful attempt with the nonchalance of the very young.

Passion keeps him going
VI Raju, Medvin's father says that he used to take his son to Anna Nagar Tower Park regularly, so that Medvin could play with kids. "He didn't have any friends at our apartment in Ambattur. And once he saw kids practising skating at Anna Nagar, he too wanted to try it. But he was too young to get any formal training. So, it was only after a year or so that he started getting professional coaching." Raju adds that Medvin's training in gymnastics, to aid his limbo skating has been the most difficult one so far. "He had to train to stretch his legs 180 degrees askew for limbo skating and therefore, he started doing gymnastics. The training was really difficult and I would get worried seeing him endure so much pain. But he never gave up till he achieved it," says Raju.

On his way to record books
It was in February last that Medvin, a student of CSI Ewart Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Anna Nagar, first attempted to get his name into the record books. "And he got into Asia-, India- and Tamil Nadu-Book of Records for 50-metre limbo skating under poles at a height of 9 inches from the ground. Then got his name twice in the Guinness Book of Records last year for 25-metre and 10-metre limbo skating," says Raju.

Now, Medvin has successfully attempted his third one and is awaiting a confirmation from the Guinness people soon. "The current record is held by Mingfin Li, a girl, from China. The event, on last Saturday, was judged by Arjuna awardee Wilson Cherian, Abraham Zachariah, a member of the Technical Committee of Artistic Skating and Sunil Sethia, a chartered accountant. Now, the video of his performance has been sent to the Guinness office for the confirmation certificate from them," states Raju.

Next - a fastest limbo skating record
Ask Medvin about his future plans and pat comes the reply, "Next, I want to clock the fastest limbo skating, and set a record." However, Raju says, "I haven't thought about a career for him in skating, yet. I just want him stay healthy and that's why I was keen on him taking up a sport. The best thing with him is that he never complains and blindly follows whatever his coach and I tell him."

How to remove tanning from elbows and knees

Elbows:

Tanning and darkening of elbows is one of the most difficult and stubborn areas from where removing these black spots becomes a task. But there are certain home remedies that will help you to get rid of dark and black elbows.

1. Sunscreen: Sunscreen should be generously applied on the elbows when venturing outside as elbows is also exposed to the harsh sunrays which can ruin your skin cells. So the next time you are stepping out of your home apply a generous dose of sunscreen.

2. Lemon Juice: Lemon juice acts as a great exfoliator. Cut a lemon into half and rub one half of a lemon fruit on one elbow and the other half on the other elbow. Rub for 10 minutes and then allow the juice to dry. Wash the juice using cold water. Do this treatment as many numbers of times as you want in a day. But don't forget to apply a moisturizer on your elbows after every treatment.

3. Turmeric, Honey and Milk: Turmeric has antiseptic properties and milk act as bleach, while honey moisturizes the dry skin. Mix some turmeric with milk and honey to make it a smooth paste. Apply it on the dark areas and leave it there for at least 20 minutes. Wet your hands and rub it for few minutes and then wash it off with cold water.

4. Sugar and Olive Oil: Sugar works as an excellent source of exfoliation, while olive oil will moisturize the skin. Mix equal quantities of olive oil and sugar to make a thick paste. Apply this mix on to the black knees and elbow. Rub the skin using this mixture for about five minutes. Wash using mild soap and water.

5. Gram Flour and Lemon: Gram flour cleanses the area and also provides mild exfoliation. While lemon juice acts as a natural bleach that will help to reduce the darkness from your elbows. Add some lime juice to gram flour to make it paste. Apply the mixture and rub in circular motion on your elbows. Allow it to dry and wash it off with cold water.

Knees:

No matter how much careful you are there are certain areas which once are tanned or get black it is difficult to remove the blackness and roughness from that area. And one such area is knees. Once your knees start getting black and if enough care isn't take care then removing it becomes difficult. So here are certain tips that will help you to remove the blackness from your knees. Dark and ashy knees can sometimes be the result of accumulation of dead skin cells on the knees. If these skin cells are not removed they turn dark in color by interacting with the oxygen present in the air.

1. Oatmeal scrub: Mix two tablespoons powdered oatmeal with two teaspoons fresh cream or honey. Apply the paste on the knees and leave for few minutes. Now gently massage the paste on the knees. Use only the tips of your fingers for massaging. Wash off the paste after massaging with cold water. Oatmeal works as a great exfoliator and removes dead skin cells.

2. Baking soda: Baking soda is an excellent natural scrub. Make a paste of baking powder using water. Apply the paste on the dark knees and leave for about five minutes. After five minutes wet your hands and start scrubbing the knees where the baking soda is placed for 7-10 minutes. Remove the baking soda paste using water. Pat them dry however let them remain a little damp as you should immediately apply moisturizer on it. Do this on alternate days.

3. Almonds: In a bowl take one tablespoon powdered almonds and one teaspoon finely powdered almond shells. Mix them by adding fresh cream. Apply the paste on the knees and massage them for 10 minutes. Once the massing is done leave the scrub on the knees for five minutes and then remove using lukewarm water. Dry the knees and apply a moisturizer. You could even replace apricot shells with walnut shells.

4. Olive Oil: Warm a little olive oil and apply it on your dark knees. Rub the oil well into the skin. Do this treatment at night before going to bed. Do this thrice a week. Olive oil will not only cure the problem of dark/ashy knees but also soften the skin on the knees. You could also use warm coconut oil in place of olive oil for massaging the dark knees. Coconut oil is as effective as olive oil but it needs to be massaged daily on the knees.

5. Lemon: Lemon is natural bleach and can lighten the color of the knees with regular use. Wash your knees and rub one half of a lemon fruit on knee and the other half on the other knee. Rub for 10 minutes and then allow the juice to dry. Wash the juice using cold water. Do this treatment as many numbers of times as you want in a day. But don't forget to apply a moisturizer to the knees after every treatment.

Have you heard of vajacial?

If you thought that pampering the portion between your legs ended with bikini and Brazilian waxing and tattooing, you are wrong.

Here's the latest in the beauty book — vajacial. A revitalising treatment, it's popular in the West, with actress Isla Fisher making a mention of it in an interview recently. And now, it has come to India as well.

What's vajacial? It's basically a facial for the vagina and is mostly done after a bikini or Brazilian wax. Beautician Meitei, who offers this service in her chain of parlours, says, "Waxing or razor removal of hair can sometime leave the skin red and irritated. Vajacial exfoliates the skin around the vulva and leaves it supple and relaxed. The procedure usually goes on for 60 minutes and includes exfoliation through scrubs, packs, mild bleaching and steaming and removal of ingrown hair with the help of tweezers." While most parlours offer vajacial in their services, it's not included in the menu card. Says Ruby Matthews, who runs a spa salon, "In the West, especially in New York and Los Angeles, there are dedicated vajacial parlours and bars. The procedure is also found on their menu card and are also often referred to using various names. But back home, not all women are comfortable exposing their privates at the parlour. In fact, there are not many who even opt for Brazilian waxing. So, we offer vajacial to only those customers who are regular at our outlets and are comfortable with the whole procedure." Meitei adds, "We've done vajacial for at least 10 women since December. Our clientele includes women who are off on their honeymoon, pool parties or a vacation abroad."

Mixed reaction from women Vajacial has featured in the list of beauty services in the West since 2010. In fact, a 41-year-old woman from Kent performed this treatment on three women live on TV recently and their feedback was telecast on the show. Rakshinda K, a final year MBA student, says, "The razor marks on my vulva would irritate me continuously and after a point, I'd stopped shaving off hair from the nether region. But when I tried out vajacial, I found it soothing. It actually made my skin baby soft. I think it's important to not ignore your privates and a one-hour procedure at least once in three months will help exfoliate the skin." While there are takers for this beauty treatment, not all are smitten with it. In fact, reactions to vajacial from women across the spectrum range from 'gross' to 'what's wrong with a warm bath and some simple scrubbing after waxing'. Rohini K, a financial analyst, says, "I find it surprising that women wouldn't mind putting their nether region through torturous procedures — from colouring pubic hair and tattooing the vulva to decking it with crystals. Subjecting such sensitive skin to bleach, scrub and steam is not my cup of tea." Agreeing with her is Vinuja Saksena, an advertising professional, "This whole procedure sounds like anything, but fun. I'm not against caring for the lady pocket, but what's the point of bleaching and making the skin around look a shade whiter? I think it's just another way of making a woman feel insecure about her own body."

How safe is the procedure? It's reported that a vajacial can reduce vaginal dryness in women who have hit menopause and also tighten the skin around the vulva. Reportedly, it also increases the sex drive. But, how safe is it? Not much, says clinical cosmetologist Dr Anusha Manini. "The area around the vulva is extremely sensitive and using chemicals down under is absolutely not advisable. It's important to keep your privates hygienic and soft, and for that, you don't necessarily need to go to a spa. Cleansing it with mild soap water, medicated PH balance solution and applying coconut or olive oil will do the trick," she adds.

Hairstyles that rocked the red carpet

The red carpet at the Academy Awards is not just about who wore what.

The celebrated awards ceremony is also a time when the city's fashionistas look out for trends, especially when it comes to interesting hairdos. Though this year's awards night didn't see too many trends, except for Scarlett Johansson's bold mohawk look and the shorn hair trend which both ScarJo and Rosamund Pike sported, we did spot some everyday styles that worked well on the red carpet too. Here are a few actresses who rocked the red carpet with their casual yet chic hairstyles...

Anna Kendrick The Up in the Air actress Anna Kendrick was quite a stunner at the Oscars. She looked resplendent in her peach gown and classic hairdo. Playing with her waves, Anna went for a classic chignon to go with her outfit. Uncluttered and beautiful, her look screamed of her natural personality.

Dakota Johnson She might have sported this look in her film, Fifty Shades of Grey, but Dakota looks every bit cute in this asymmetrical fringe hairstyle. She just kept it simple by tying it up and even went for a slight messy fringe instead of completely straightening it. What's more? Her hairdo went well with the dress too.

Emma Stone Emma Stone was undoubtedly among the best dressed at the Oscars. And we'd like to award her brownie points for her hairdo too. The side-swept look spelled sheer elegance. We also loved how she maintained the length of her hair in casual waves.

Jennifer Lopez Singer-actor Jennifer Lopez looked dreamy in her brown sheer gown. But what we really liked about her look is that she kept her hairstyle simple by sporting a ponytail. Now, all you girls who worry about going over the top for the gown-look can take a cue from JLo.

Keira Knightley Keira Knightley, who looked gorgeous in a net-and- satin gown that had flower motifs and graphic text, sported a simple yet casual hairstyle. She just played with her waves and chose a head band to go with the look. This mom-to-be sure carried off this look with elan.

Sienna Miller While most of her contemporaries chose white, this American-born British actress looked resplendent in a blue-black fishtail gown. Sienna Miller worked on her look quite well, pairing her outfit with a side twist hairdo. What we really liked about her hairstyle is that it was casual yet classy. Sienna's overall look was very simple, as the actress went for a minimal-accessory look.

Pamper yourself with Aromatherapy for Holi

Written By Unknown on Selasa, 24 Februari 2015 | 18.47

Holi - the festival of colours - heralds the onset of spring and the exuberance of a new beginning. And of course, it also brings with it a host of skin and hair problems thanks to the coloured water and harsh colours.

Skin problems, allergies, irritations, rough and brittle hair are some of the hard to miss health hazards of this otherwise fun-filled and vibrant festival.

So if you too are planning to play Holi while maintaining a healthy skin and a shining mane even after dunking yourself in buckets of coloured water, then follow the tips...

Prepare Yourself for Holi

Skin

A week Before Holi , prepare your sensitive skin from rashes, swellings and allergies by adopting a simple Aroma Spray : Add 2 drops each of Tea Tree and Patchouli oils and half tea spoon Dead Sea salt in 250 Ml water in an Aluminium or glass spray Bottle and Shake well . Spray on your face and other body parts atleast twice a day. This will help you immensely to prevent any skin allergies erupting on application of hard Holi colours

Pamper with Aromatherapy oils

"One teaspoon of Jojoba oil mixed with one drop each of lavender or Neroli Aroma oil along with tea-tree oil can make a protective base before Holi festivities. Jojoba oil has the properties of the natural oils of our skin and shields the skin against chemicals and sunlight, while tea-tree oil prevents allergies and lavender acts as soothing agent..Neroli Oil is a natural nervous soother and thus calms down the over stretched and stressed out nervous tissues..

Culinary Vegetable oils in the kitchen can also help to prevent permanent staining and any kind of itching and irritation..

Protect your delicate tissues of the face with application of Foundation which tend to come off with a good face wash . Calamine Lotions also help to protect your skin , especially if you possess Extra Oily skin texture.

Splash as much water on your skin as possible to ensure minimum contact with the metallic ,toxic colours.

Lips and Eyes

Transfer-resistant lipstick is a great way to keep colour off the delicate skin of your lips.

Keep those contact lenses away for a day and go for spectacles instead if you don't want Holi-coloured lenses.

Hands and Feet

If you don't want discoloured nails, use plenty of petroleum jelly and nail paints not just on the nails but inside and also in the nail folds. Go for Jojoba oil-based moisturisers on legs and feet.

A sunblock is extremely important to avoid the 'photo-toxic' reaction caused by the twin attacks of sun and water. Rather than a regular sunscreen, opt for a waterproof sunscreen so that it does not wash away with water and liquid colours.

And most important: Wear covered clothes. Jeans can get uncomfortable in water so go for cotton.

After Holi

The best way to beat the Holi blues is - bathe, bathe and bathe with cold water! Let a moisturising body wash with a gentle loofah begin the colour removing session. If that doesn't work on stubborn stains try cleansing milk with a wet cotton ball and Facial Cleansing Gels .

"Skin becomes very sensitive post Holi, so too much of scrubbing should be avoided. Go for mild cleansers every few hours .

Synthetic colours invariably cause dryness and harm the top-most keratin layer of your Hair. Long exposure and a vigorous rub-off with soap or detergent will further damage your skin and hair

On persistent itching on the skin , apply cool Rose water or Aloe Vera Juice followed by Jojoba Oil mixed with one drop each of Tea Tree and Lavender Oil.

Moisturising mantra

It's very important to keep the moisture levels intact all through the festivities, be it on your skin or hair. For face use gentle glycerin based soaps and a good quality mild shampoo for hair to keep them frizz-free. Don't forget to dab loads of moisturiser on skin after bath and use good amount of conditioner on damp hair for at least 10-15 minutes for deep conditioning.

A quick manicure and pedicure can be a great lifesaver for nails. Applying a nail hardener is again a great option after the onslaught of water.

Your kitchen also offers good recipes for maintaining the skin.

Use Banana and papaya pack for extra dry and itching skin

To rid of tan, you may use sandalwood powder, tulsi and pudina packs

To bring back life and lusture to dull and dry hair, mix half a cup of olive oil, an egg white and a little quantity of honey and coat your hair with this scalp for half and hour and rinse off.

Movie based on Saadat Hasan Manto in April

A movie based on Saadat Hasan Manto, one of the subcontinent's most beloved chroniclers of human follies and foibles, is ready to be released. This Pakistani production simply titled Manto is scheduled to be released after the cricket World Cup sometime in April.

Written by renowned Pakistani writer Shahid Nadeem and directed by and starring television actor and director Sarmad Khoosat, Manto maps the seven tumultuous years the author spent in Pakistan before he died in 1955.

Manto was born in Ludhiana in undivided India in 1912, moved to Mumbai in the mid-30s, where he wrote short stories, film scripts and dialogue, and relocated to Lahore in 1948 after the Partition. In Lahore, he wrote newspaper columns and some of his best-known stories, including Thanda Gosht and Toba Tek Singh, while nursing the bottle and appearing in court on charges of obscenity.

Khoosat emphasised that the movie is an interpretation rather than a faithful retelling of the writer's twilight period. This is Manto as "angry and defiant", said Shahid Nadeem, a man who "refuses to bow before the custodians of morality".

Planning to get inked?

The craze for tattoos show no sign of waning. If 2014 saw the trend peak with innovative designs, this year it's all about getting inked in funky and abstract tattoo designs.

Ink trends

Flash tattoos Temporary tattoos are in demand. And flash tattoos are temporary tattoo designs inspired by jewellery. It's being taken quite seriously by fashionistas. As the name suggests, flash tattoos are perfect for the beach, the pool, parties, festivals and concerts as they are flashy and are done with metallic inks like silver, gold, bronze and emerald green. These tattoos are low on maintenance. They last about four-six days, depending on how well you take care of it. Bandra-based tattoo artist Joel Fernandes says, "Avoid any soap, sunscreen, lotions or oils near or on your tattoo. These types of oil-based substances will begin to degrade the adhesive."

Safety measures Flash tattoos are extremely safe; they do not have any side-effects whatsoever. Since these are temporary tattoos, there is no long-term damage to the skin, neither does it leave any mark on your body when removed.

Glow in the dark tattoos Just like those t-shirts or accessories that glow in the dark, this form of body art will make you stand out in the dark. Hollywood celebrities Lil Wayne, Kim Kardashian and Lindsay Lohan already have a glow-in-the-dark tattoos. While regular tattoo ink is a metal, vegetable or plastic-based pigment suspended in a hypoallergenic carrier solution, glow-in-the-dark tattoos are made out of a solution containing phosphorus — it's invisible in normal light, but lights up in the dark.

Safety measures "Due to the presence of phosphorus, the tattoo might have side-effects like blistering, pain, burning sensations and skin rashes, as the use of phosphorous-based inks is not approved," says Minq Negi, a tattoo artist from Santacruz.

White ink tattoos Although they appear to be similar to the previous one, they are not. White ink tattoos are for the ones who subtly wish to ink themselves. Says tattoo artist Mini Sharma, "Done by a slightly thickened white ink, composed of UV components that make it shine under UV lights, these make a statement without being too loud. These tattoos look more like a texture on your skin, rather than a design. They are described as lace textures on the skin." They look good on any skin tone, provided they are intricate.

Safety measures Negi further adds, "These tattoos take longer to heal — one must avoid sun exposure as this might change the colour of the tattoo from white to grey, depending your skin tone."

Design trends

Ambigrams They are the next big thing in tattoo lettering. The best part about an ambigram is that it retains meaning when viewed or interpreted from different angles. Moreover, it is not common as the perfect ambigram is very difficult to create. One needs to choose the right words and letters, so it not just looks but sounds effective as well.

Dandelion Dandelion tattoos have become the recent favourite among women in the age group of 20 to 30s. Dandelion is a wild flower, which has yellow flowers with lots of thin petals on it. The tattoo has become prominent because of its popularity with ancient folklore and legends. In Christianity, it is associated with Jesus Christ's love and sacrifice. The tattoo symbolises what you wish for and is also considered to bring good luck and prosperity.

Dreamcatcher Another popular tattoo that will gain momentum this year is the dreamcatcher tattoo. It has a deep-rooted meaning and beliefs associated with it. Instead of the shaded dreamcatcher tattoo which has been popular for a while now, these days, tattoos are being done with different colours like pinks, oranges and reds. It is widely believed that getting this tattoo done will keep away bad dreams and allow only the good ones in your life.

Hamsa tattoos A popular talisman used in various cultures and religions, this tattoo is quite popular among the youth, irrespective of religion. It has always been used in art, jewellery and other artifacts; however, the tattoo world has also been exploring this symbol, as it's considered pious. The first design depicts the power to ward off evil, while the latter is a symbol of good luck. This tattoo is done to stay safe from those who emit looks/vibes of envy.

3D Tattoos Tattoos are going crazier and wilder this year. From 2D to 3D, these tattoos are done with different artwork and various use of shading. They not only look very real but are also different from the usual tattoos that you ideally get to spot on somebody.

Body trends

On the ear If you are looking for an earring that you never want to lose, ear tattoos are the 'in' thing. Since most women believe in resorting to subtle ways, when it comes to expressing feelings, a lot of women find ear tattoos very sexy.

On the neck Getting a tattoo done on the neck is very popular amongst women of all age groups. Whether it is getting a tattoo done on the back of the neck or on the side, the neck is possibly one of the less painful areas in the body to get a tattoo done. While big tattoos behind the neck looks great, small ones on the side of the neck look glamorous.

Under the breast People are not only getting tattoos done on more intimate areas like under the breast. Small tattoos like butterflies, tiger paws and angel wings are some of the popular ones.

Side of the hand These days, it's all about the 'not-so-obvious' places to get a tattoo, hence a lot of people like to sport their tattoos on the side of their hand.

Footline Letterings have always been a favourite among tattoo lovers, from sayings to chants, and from loved ones to beliefs, many people like to get inked in letters. And writing on your footline is the newest trend when it comes to lettering tattoos. Running letters across your foot, exactly moving through the curve and defining your sole look great.

Prepare your skin with aromatherapy before Holi

Holi, the festival of colours is just a few days away, so indulge in aromatherapy to prepare your skin.

Naresh Arora, aromatherapist and beauty expert, says start skin care a week before Holi to avoid getting rashes or swelling.

One of the best ways to keep up your appearances is to maintain well-kept nails. Because the state of your nails will indicate your level of hygiene. Keep them clean and polished.

World Cup special hairdos

Virat has always liked to stay 'on trend', but when it comes to his hairstyles, the vice captain clearly stays ahead of them, like in 2013, when he was spotted with a new, 'angled eyebrow cut' (top) in Delhi. And he's also not the only one to go for 'World Cup special' hairdos. Here's a look.

For the big game
Shikhar Dhawan revealed his new haircut on the day of the India-Pakistan match last week. Is Virat's new hair a week later the next in a series of weekly style updates to come from our boys? We'll know soon!

Post-win euphoria
Right after winning the World Cup in 2011, the Indian skipper went clean-shaven all the way. If speculations are to be believed, Dhoni had kept a mannat that he would shave his head if India won, and that's how he proudly posed with the trophy. In 2013, the hairstyle-savvy Dhoni had sported a mohawk during a premier league (left).

Kabhi brown, kabhi straight
Not really known for his on-pitch style statements, the Master Blaster turned a few heads when he decided to colour his curly locks brown during the 2011 World Cup. A year later, he surprised everyone again, when he decided to get his hair straightened for the Asia Cup, even though not everyone loved the absence of his famed curls.

Going blonde Zaheer Khan getting a blonde streak right before the 2011 World Cup proved lucky for him, as the bowler became the top wicket-taker in the tournament.

Hollywood's latest fad: Cryotherapy

A long-time Eastern European health trend, which was used by professional athletes, the cryotherapy craze has now spread to different parts of the world, including India. No wonder, many cryochambers, facials and weight loss treatments that incorporate this therapy are being added to spa menus.

Popularised by Hollywood actress Demi Moore a while back, it has found a fan following in celebs like Jennifer Aniston, Jessica Alba and Canadian model Jessica Stam. A few weeks ago, singer Mandy Moore publicly announced her obsession with the therapy, when she posted photos on a social photo-sharing site, of her and actress-friend Minka Kelly hitting a cryotherapy salon in Los Angeles.

What's it about?
Cryotherapy is traditionally a non-invasive health treatment done in extremely low temperatures — between -120 and -160 degrees Celsius. It involves the short term freezing of the skin's surface, which leads to the immediate release of enhanced levels of endorphins and adrenaline. When the face or body freezes, the blood vessels widen, and this which allows more oxygen to reach the cells. This process kick-starts the body to begin its own healing process, and speeds up the removal of toxins. "We use any of the following in cryotherapy to create low temperatures — liquid nitrogen, carbon dioxide snow, DMEP or argon," says Dr Bharti Magoo, aesthetic and anti-ageing physician.

Ice-cold beauty remedy
Until now, this therapy was only used medically for the desiccation of viral warts, skin tumours or other unwanted growths on the skin. But now it is used to treat a host of beauty issues. "Dry ice reduces the oil secretion of the sebaceous or oil gland, which is responsible for the formation of acne. It kills the bacteria responsible for large pimples. It also stimulates the collagen and lightens scars caused due to acne. Since this therapy can cause mild peeling of the skin, it improves its texture and reduces pores too," says dermatologist Dr Jaishree Sharad. It is also being touted as a remedy against ageing of the skin. The cold weakens the nerves that make your muscles contract, thus instantly smoothing forehead lines and crow's feet! And you have facials too. Says dermatologist Dr Aakriti Mehra, "In cosmetology, cryo facials/cryolift facials have caught the fancy of the public. This is a treatment in which a controlled beam of vapourised liquid nitrogen or a cryoprobe is used to freeze the skin of the face and neck."

For weight loss, cellulite reduction and more!
There's good news for those who are looking for unique ways to lose weight. Cryotherapy is also done for fat loss; this process is called cryolipolysis. "Cryolipolysis is a novel method used to destroy fat cells in the body leading to extreme fat loss and inch loss in the targeted area. This is an excellent non-invasive fat reduction and body contouring method," says surgeon Dr Apratim Goel. The extreme temperature speeds up blood circulation, increasing the metabolism and can help burn between 400 and 800 calories in a single session. Cryotherapy is also in reducing cellulite and prevents anxiety, insomnia, muscle strain, back pain, cardiovascular diseases, muscle inflammation and headaches. Are you ready to embrace the chill?

It’s India ‘ink’ for these international celebs

Octogenarian Dame Judi Dench recently said that she wants to get a tattoo of an Indian symbol that supposedly represents life and love. If she does decide to get inked, Judi will join the ranks of several Hollywood celebrities who have got Indian symbols — the most popular being Om — or words and phrases in Indian languages permanently imprinted on themselves. We look at a few...
Miley Cyrus: This young pop star caused a bit of a controversy after she was seen sporting an Om tattoo on her left wrist. Fans began debating if getting the symbol tattooed meant that Miley was changing her religious beliefs.

Alyssa Milano: Accompanying a rosary tattoo on Alyssa Milano's back is an Om tattoo at the base of her neck. The actress seems to be quite a fan of the symbol as she also has an Om tattoo on her left wrist.

Jessica Alba: The Sin City star has the Sanskrit word 'padma', which means lotus, tattooed on her right wrist. Spiritually, the lotus is regarded as a physical representation of the human soul; it starts its life beneath murky muddy waters and eventually blossoms into a beautiful flower.

Kimberly Wyatt: The Pussy Cat Dolls member has a Sanskrit tattoo in English script inked on the back of her neck which means, 'let all beings be happy and let my actions contribute to their happiness'.

Gillian Anderson: The X Files star has a Sanskrit word tattooed on her wrist. It was reported that Gillian wanted a Sanskrit tattoo, but it turned out to be one in Hindi. The actress later clarified that the Sanskrit tattoo roughly translates to 'none of your business'.

Rihanna: The S&M singer received some flak for having misspelt a verse from the Bhagavad Gita that she got inked upside down on her hip. Hindu scholars reportedly pointed out that a few words are missing from the verse.

David Beckham: This football hottie pledged his devotion to wife, former Spice Girl Victoria, by getting her name tattooed in Devanagri script on his left forearm. Unfortunately, his tattoo artist also didn't quite get the spelling right.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand: When Katy Perry and Russell Brand were preparing to tie the knot in India in 2010, they both got the Sanskrit word 'anuugacchatu pravaha' tattooed on the inside of their right arm to mark the occasion. The tattoo means 'go with the flow'.

Tommy Lee: Tommy Lee sports many tattoos across his body. A notable one is the Om symbol that he has inked on his stomach. The rocked doesn't shy away from taking off his t-shirt to show off this work of art.

Tips for an eco-friendly beauty routine

If you're conscious about your environment, why not take up the cause when it comes to following your beauty routine too? Here's how you can do that.

Most beauty brands and companies have come up with cosmetics in packaging that is recyclable. So next time you open a box of lipsticks, instead of throwing the cover in a dustbin, you can reuse it for another purpose.

Check labels of beauty products while buying them. There are special eco-friendly products that are made with keeping the environment in the mind. This means they have minimal packaging or follow eco-conscious production practices. Look for products that aren't loaded with a long list of ingredients, as well as those that are organic. You can go for make-up brushes, hair brushes, false eyelashes, and lipsticks etc that are green.

Next time you shower, don't forget to use minimal water; this is a great way to conserve the environment.

"I strum my guitar when stressed"

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 22 Februari 2015 | 18.47

Managing work-life balance: I spend a lot of time travelling as my company has a presence in 16 countries. Despite my busy schedule, I have always been conscious about maintaining a work-life balance. I occasionally take time off to unwind with my family. I follow a few simple rules which have helped me. I'm usually at home on weekends and I always stay at home during birthdays, anniversaries and other special occasions.

Being a fit man: With a fast-paced life and long-distance travel across different geographies and time zones, it is crucial to maintain a healthy lifestyle to cope with stress. I am particular about my diet and follow a regular exercise routine.

High energy and happiness: When I get positive feedback it is very motivating. I strongly believe in the mantra: Work hard, party hard. Whenever I am bogged down with a challenge at hand, I take a break. It helps to divert the mind from the problem at hand and gives me a fresh perspective. I usually pick up my guitar and strum a few chords whenever I'm stressed out.

Risk-taker or a micro-planner: I am a risk-taker because I be lieve that a reasonable level of risk appetite helps one achieve more than playing safe. Some times, it's better to go with `gut' rather than overanalysing things. The most important thing is to be driven by passion.

Spiritual diet: `Stay committed, stay humble' is my motto. I believe in staying dedicated. Also, I always keep my ego in check and I'm receptive to logical arguments and new perspectives from others.

Handling failure/success: When there's a failure, I like to examine where things went wrong. Then I move on ng with the learning. Instead of getting bogged down, we take it as a lesson and look to wards improvement. I go by what Theodore Roosevelt said: "Keep your eyes on the stars and Roosevelt said: "Keep your eyes on the stars and your feet on the ground." I ensure that I don't let success get to my head. Success is more of an abstract term - something that is never quantifiable. What matters to me is how happy I am, how healthy I am, how happy are the people I work with, and what kind of impact I can make on the industry and society.

Dos and Don’ts of buying art online

Stay cool this summer

Choose summer-appropriate fabrics such as cotton and linen that allow the skin to breathe. Similarly, for sportswear, go for fabrics like dri-fit; they wick moisture away from the skin, allowing it to evaporate quickly to keep you fresh.

Keep your armpits fresh by keeping a deodorant handy. Remember, antiperspirants should make contact with the skin to be effective. So, hold the bottle six to eight s inches away from the skin and spray to ensure even coverage. Never spray immediately after showering. Wash your feet daily in warm water with a few drops of tea tree oil to keep your feet bacteria free.

Feet have 2,50,000 sweat glands and can produce a lot of sweat. To minimise discomfort, wear cotton socks and leather shoes.

Keep your hair and scalp cool and fresh by washing with an anti-dandruff shampoo that has menthol. Menthol widens blood vessels and helps your body regulate its temperature. Its cools the scalp.

Reduce your caffeine intake as it increases sweat production. Swap tea, coffee and cola for water and fruit juice. Carry a bottle of water wherever you go. Also, increase your in take of fresh fruits and vegetables as they release the water content at a slower and more consistent rate than water - thus avoiding dehydration.

No more moobs, 'butt' Naturally!

A British brand has claimed to have come up with jeans that can flatten stomachs and smooth away love handles. Another, for men, claims to make 'moobs' and beer belies kaput.

You've probably heard about the dreaded 'muffin top' - the result of one too many of those doughnuts, butter chickens, late night barfis and pizzas - but now thanks to science, or perhaps just a clever marketing gimmick, there seems to be an end to that. And it's got absolutely nothing to do with exercise! Dubbed the 'muffin stop', the jeans feature a high, curved waistband and an inner support panel that the makers claim will "ensure that any wobbly bits are held within the trousers, rather than bulging over the top." And as if this didn't sound like an engineering marvel, apparently these can also "flatter the bottom and make it more pert."

And while these might sound like a godsend for 'bottom-flatterers' everywhere, it elicits mixed reactions from some of our ramp-scorching 'Shapely Susans'! "I don't think it's entirely a gimmick as different fits and cuts in clothing can definitely enhance or minimize body structure depending upon your body type. So, it may be useful for those who want to enhance their body shape. But as for me, I exercise and work hard to keep my body fit and natural looking so I don't need any of this stuff!! But evidently, back in its native England, these shortcuts to a 'shapelier you' - they apparently sold a hundred pairs a minute, in all the four colors that they are available in. The leggy Diandra Soares, for one is all for it, even though she probably doesn't need it! "Yeah, bring it on! If it works - I would love a pair! Wish they could enhance the calves as well. But then, I guess it is better to take the workout route, get the booty you want and look great in anything!

Others, like Malaika Arora-Khan of the enviable-figure fame, dismisses this downright. "I think they are too gimmicky. And as I don't need any enhancement, I wouldn't go for a pair myself." But model Binal Trivedi, who is known to experiment a lot with various looks and fashions would probably give it a shot. "Wow, really?!" she exults, continuing, I wish it was just so easy... Yeah, I would try them out of curiosity because you do get jeans that accentuate your assets and work for a particular body type and then if just one pair would work for all the problem areas, then why not?? I secretly wish they would come up with something like that. They would be a hit."

But its clear that the medical fraternity is not in great agreement. Abdominal surgery expert Dr Yash Kumar, asserts, "Obviously, these jeans are not a medical solution to anything. At best, it can help to give the wearer a particular shape for the duration of time they wear it. Nonetheless, as long as they are not too tight and restrict blood flow, I don't see any harm in ladies wearing them." While obesity consultant and cosmetic physician Dr Manjiri Patankar concludes, "Body image is very important for self confidence. There are procedures like ultrasonic lipolysis endermology and mesotherapy that work wonderfully on resistant fat cells, cellulite and loose skin."

Have you heard of mon pubis?

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 21 Februari 2015 | 18.48

Have you heard of mon pubis?

After the craze (and furore) about the thigh gap and the bikini bridge last year, the latest beauty buzz is about the mon pubis.

In case you're wondering what that is, it is the small amount of flesh that rests on your pubic bone. Within days, the hashtag #Monspubis has already started trending on microblogging websites with discussions about it. And if that isn't surprising enough, there is actually a cosmetic surgery procedure to address it.

Called Monsplasty (or more popularly as the Pubic Lift), the procedure is said to reduce and tighten the mons pubis. Experts say that the area usually increases in size due to an increase in weight or childbirth and the surgical operation reduces sagging skin and binds the remaining muscle and tissue together to give it a taut appearance. And for those who shudder at the thought of going under the knife -some doctors are also offering non-invasive ways to have a monsplasty effect. Using focused radio-frequency energy to bolster the collagen in your skin, the procedure is supposed to give you a smoother look.

How to get rid of facial hair

Beauty expert Shahnaz Husain suggests some hair removal tips

There are many ways of removing facial hair. The method should be chosen according to quantity or thickness, location and rate of growth. Read on to find out more

Temporary methods of facial hair removal

Plucking
This method involves the use of tweezers and removes hair from the follicles. Therefore, re-growth takes time. Plucking is suitable for stray hairs on the chin, between and under the brows. It should not be used for hair on the upper lip. The area should be first wiped with cotton wool, soaked in a mild antiseptic solution. One should also take care not to pluck out hair from a mole, before consulting a doctor.

Threading
It's the most common method of removing facial hair. The disadvantage is that the effect is temporary and the procedure has to be repeated periodically. It is useful for areas like the upper lip and the eyebrows. In fact, threading is done to shape the eyebrows. Frequent
threading can cause skin irritations. On sensitive skins, there can be redness or a rash. Avoid threading on areas with eruptions, like pimples or acne. A zinc ointment or ice can be applied to soothe the skin.

Waxing
Many beauty salons offer "katori" waxing for facial hair. Cold wax would be safer for the face. Waxing strips are available. However, large areas of the face should not be waxed. It would be good for smaller areas like the chin, area above the lips or sideburns. For excessive facial hair, many women use a combination of methods, like threading chin and area above lips and bleaching the rest of the face. Or, threading chin and upper lip and waxing sideburns.

Epilation
An epilator is a small gadget for hair removal. Epilators for facial hair are different from the ones for body hair. The effect lasts for about 4 to 6 weeks. Epilators pull out the hair by the roots. It is said that the smallest hair can be removed with an epilator. There is
some initial pain, which may decrease gradually.

Electrolysis
Although this is said to be a permanent method of hair removal, re-growth can occur. In electrolysis, the diathermy method was common. It involves the use of fine needles, through which an electric current is passed. But now a new procedure is being used, known as transdermal electrolysis, in which needles are not used. Also, superfluous hair can be removed from larger areas.

In the earlier method, needles were introduced into the hair follicle to cauterise the hair root. This checked re-growth. It is extremely important to make inquiries, as scarring can occur in the hands of an unskilled operator.

Laser
This is the latest method of permanent removal of facial hair. Laser produces an intense beam of light, which is absorbed by the hair follicles. The laser disables the hair follicle's ability to produce hair. Cooling devices are used to prevent damage to the rest of theskin. The advantage of laser over electrolysis is that the laser light can scan broader areas. Therefore, fewer sessions are required. However, it is more expensive than electrolysis. Re-growth occurs in some cases, but is slower and scantier. It is very important to find agood laser clinic. The temporary known side effects are redness, swelling and itching. The main risk in laser treatment is the possibility of skin burns. So, before choosing the clinic, it is essential to find out its reputation, by making inquiries and talking to people who have been through the treatment.

Home remedies
For very fine hair, scrubs and exfoliation can help. This would discourage hair growth over a period of time, if used regularly. Make a thick paste of sugar, lemon juice and water and apply it in the direction of hair growth. Wash off when it dries. Apply it once or twice a week. Apply a paste of turmeric powder and milk and rub this on the skin with a circular motion. It is said to discourage facial hair, but it may leave a yellowish tinge on the skin.
