But there's a solution to all this problem. These days, one can buy art online. The process is easy and safe. Ahmedabad based art promoter and entrepreneur Chaitya Dhanvi Shah points out some do's and don'ts before you get into online buying
Dos
1. Always make sure you buy from a reputed online site.
2. The founder / CEO of the site must be into the art business and have knowledge regarding how to collect and have variety in its inventory.
3. Compare various styles and various artists before zeroing down one.
4. Quality is the key. Spend some time online on the same site before buying. Have a look at different artworks of the same artist. Think. Then again have a look at different artist. Think.That will make your selection of quality artwork easier.
5. Read about the artist. Learn about his/her technique and style before buying.
6. Read carefully all the details about the artworks like size, year, medium and the like mentioned on the website. To avoid last minute tension by ordering a limited edition signed serigraph and end up getting a reproduction. The most important thing is to visualize the artwork for whatever purpose you wish to buy before ordering it.
7. Get the size of the artworks right into your mind and only then order it.
8. Always ask for authentication certificate.
9. Once the artwork reaches you immediately open it up from the roll form and get it in flat form for some time. Lesser the time the artwork is in roll form is good for its longevity.
Don'ts
1. Don't get trapped into big names that are associated with the online gallery.
2. Fakes of masters or reputed artists are circulated in huge numbers in the name of affordable art.
3. Don't buy masters even if you are getting it for too cheap. Cheaper the product chances of it being fake are highest.
4. Do not compare the price with the size of one artist with another. Mainly all artists have different pricing based on their experience and work.
5. Do not reproduce in any format like photographic print or scanning the artwork once you buy it and then re-sale/sale it. All the artworks are protected under copyright.
