FOR A FLAWLESS FACE
Make sure your skin is dewy fresh before D-day. Use Lakme Absolute Skin Gloss Reflection Serum to get that perfect sheen on your skin. The most critical part of bridal make-up is applying the base.

Its gel-based formulation blends easily and feels like second skin.

EYES THAT SPARKLE
The eyes of a bride speak a million words! So let the drama begin as you enhance them with a jewel-toned winged eyeliner that will help define your eyes like never before. With a steady hand, draw a thick-winged eye with Absolute Gel Addict in the metallic bronze shade on your eyelids. Start from the inner corner of the eye, extending it upwards and outwards. The smudge-proof formula will ensure that the glossy-rich finish stays through the day and night.

NAIL THE TREND

LUSCIOUS LIPS

Lose baby weight the healthy way

A woman's body goes tremendous change when she becomes a mother. From gaining weight to hormonal changes, she goes through a number changes.

And one of the toughest things that new mothers have to face is losing all that baby weight. Not only is dealing with a newborn challenging — you have to adjust to their sleep and feeding routines, you also need to make sure that your partner doesn't feel neglected. Here are some effective ways to lose your baby weight...

- In the first few months (say till your tot crosses four months), your baby is mostly sleeping. Once you're adjusted to your baby's routine (more or less), try and take some time out to exercise. It could mean 45 minutes of yoga, 20 minutes on the treadmill or a 30 minute brisk walk in your building compound. Make sure that you allow yourself some time (without feeling guilty) to do what you like. This way you won't feel like you're neglecting yourself and lose weight too.

- Remember your body has just gone through a big challenge. Don't expect miracles when it comes to losing weight but don't lose heart either when those pounds take ages to come off. If you had a natural delivery, you can start exercising after a couple of weeks. And if you had a C-section, you need to wait at least six to eight weeks to allow your body to heal. Either way, check with your doctor first.

- Start slowly. Don't jump headlong into a strenuous exercise regime after panicking about losing weight. Begin with a few basic stretches so that your body gets used to exercising again. A gradual start will ensure you build your stamina.

- Sometimes take your baby along in a pram for a walk. Start by walking slowly and gradually increase your speed.

- Don't forget to do pelvic exercises, which are affected by childbirth.

- Breastfeeding is also an excellent way to lose weight. Make sure you eat a healthy, balanced diet.

Guide to weekend house cleaning

For those who stay all by themselves, it is practically difficult to clean your house on the weekdays. But, if you have the weekend to yourself, make use of this time to ensure that your house is absolutely clean for the week ahead.

Make a list of things that you need to buy: You cannot go out for grocery shopping on a daily basis on the weekdays, thus make a list of things that you need to buy from your local supermarket and head out on Saturday to buy those. This way you will get the entire Sunday to yourself to focus on cleaning the house.

Start with changing bedcovers and linens: When you wake up, the first thing in the morning, make sure to change all linens in your house. Take out the fresh ones and put the old ones in the washing machine.

Dusting is necessary: Many of you might not be able to do this on the weekdays, thus after you've changed the covers, start by dusting. Make sure that all the table tops, cupboards are clean.

Clean your kitchen as well: Make sure that your kitchen is absolutely clean so that you don't have cockroaches and spiders hovering over those food shelves.

In pics: 5 ways to be safe on a girl’s night out

/life-style/photo-stories/relationships/5-ways-to-be-safe-on-a-girls-night-out/eventshow/44982079.cms

01

A university in the US has come out with a nail polish that changes colour when it detects chemicals such as GBH, Rohypnol or Xanax.

All that one has to do is dip a finger in their drink and the nail polish changes colour, indicating the presence of substances. However, this approach has been deemed impractical as research suggests that incidents of date-rape occur mostly when the perpetrator is known to the victim and that at times, it is one too many cocktails that becomes the drug that is involved. But that doesn't mean one has to party sober. Here are ways to be smart and safe about your single's night out.

Never leave your glass out of sight: The most common reason for a date-rape is someone spiking your drink. So, it's important to never leave your drink out of sight. Says Tina Bakshi, who manages a suburban nightclub, "Although it is not that common, we advise people to not leave their drink unattended. In fact, it's not necessary that such a stunt could be pulled off by a stranger. It could also be someone close to you, who could attempt such a thing." She adds that it's safe to keep an eye on your drink when out to meet someone for the first time. "Although the onus is not always on the girl, and it's the guys who are responsible for such a thing, it's best to take precaution." (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

02

Avoid Drinking in public places: If you are ordering drinks on your first date, it's never a good thing to go overboard with it. If you're meeting someone for the first time, it's best to be clear headed. Remember that it's a public place, and at times, even drink could itself play the role of a date-rape drug. According to Ganesh Narwade, manager of a popular city nightclub, people should know their limits. "In what I have seen, a drink or maximum two is good when you're out on a date. If you're in a group, the dynamics are different. But if you're not sure, it's good to drink at home instead," he says. (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

03

Stay away from a blind date: While we all love the mystery of a blind date, and that first dates are a rather exciting time, it could also lead to a bad experience. Rita Shetty (name changed), who was a victim to a bad blind dating experience, says, "I met one guy through a social networking site and we started chatting. He seemed decent enough and we decided to meet up for drinks. He turned out to be a creep and I left the date midway, with an excuse that an emergency had come up at home." Don't feel obligated to accept anything: If someone passes you a glass or plate, it's not too scandalising to get your guard up. Hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani, a regular partygoer, feels that while accepting something is okay from someone whom you meet for the first time, you shouldn't feel obligated. "Accepting a drink from someone isn't a big deal especially if you're in a crowded place, like a club or a restaurant. Going out is about getting to know other people. But at the same time, one should not feel obligated towards anything. No one's doing you a favour," she says, adding that one can always excuse themselves. (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

05

Keep a sober friend for company: If you're out with friends, always have one friend who is being sober. Says Bhavnani, "If I'm going out in a group, it's usually me who is the sober person. It's a good thing because the others can then be care free and have a good time. And, if someone does go overboard with their drink, the sober person can handle them." Even Bakshi, who has seen her share of drunk groups in her club, says, "When people go overboard in a group and there is no one to handle them, it can get chaotic. Young people especially, need to have a few sober friends around if they want to do a night of heavy partying as you want things to end smoothly at the end of the night." Celeb cook in: Dhaba-style aloo matar

Written By Unknown on Kamis, 30 Oktober 2014 | 18.48

My "maa ke haath ka khana": Is delicious, especially her dhaba-style aloo matar and rajma chawal. No matter how hard I try to recreate the same aroma and taste in my dish, I always fail at it.
My earliest memory of food: Since I have lived in a joint family, food for me isn't just about pleasing my taste buds, but a whole lot of fun that comes with eating together.
My favourite recipe: Undoubtedly, aloo matar; it's my weakness. This is because when my mom was expecting me, she would keep craving aloo matar. So, my love for it started even before I was born!

I enjoy cooking: I simply love it when I get a lot of compliments for my cooking. It gives me a high. I also find cooking therapeutic and relaxing.

To impress my man: I'd stick to my forte - delectable north Indian food that is complex in flavour and beautifully presented. Men should learn to cook too I My brother was taught to cook with the same enthusiasm my sister and I were. I strongly feel that even men have a role to play in the kitchen and should cook for their loved ones whenever possible.
On the sets, I eat: Simple, home-cooked food. Light, vegetarian dishes keep me energised and nourished. I eat at regular intervals as not eating for long can trigger mood swings.
My favourite `foodie' destination: New Zealand.
My non-food passions: Old Bollywood music is something I enjoy. I'm also an ardent traveller and like going on weekend holidays from time to time.

My favourite travel destination is: Europe. I am also an avid reader and love to spend my spare time reading.

Animal-loving celebrities turn to adoption

Ever since the animal adoption scheme was introduced at the Chamarajendra Zoological in Mysore in 2001, a slew of animal-lovers, especially celebrities, have taken it upon themselves to make the lives of these captive creatures more comfortable.

The most recent additions to this evergrowing list are filmmaker Indrajit Lankesh, who adopted a white peacock for life, and cricketer Vinay Kumar, who's loosened his purse strings for an Asiatic lion.

INDRAJIT LANKESH
When the filmmaker, who also runs a tabloid, announced that he was adopting a peacock for life, it did not take many by surprise, given that the logo of his publication features the national bird.

VINAY KUMAR
On his most recent visit to Mysore, the cricketer, accompanied by his wife Richa decided to adopt a lion called Darshan.

DARSHAN
Sandalwood actor Darshan, who has a private zoo of sorts at his farm in Mysore, has adopted the tiger cub Manya and a baby elephant.

MS DHONI
It's a Bengal tiger called Agasthya that caught the fancy of Indian cricket skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

ANIL KUMBLE
As the vice chairman of the State Wildlife Board, the former cricketer decided to do his bit, when he paid for the upkeep of the Asiatic Lion Shankara and a giraffe calf.

RAHUL DRAVID
Former Indian cricketer Rahul may not have been the fastest on the field, but he pays for the welfare of a very fast animal -the cheetah. Rahul has adopted not one, but two African cheetahs.

BS YEDDYURAPPA
The former Kar nataka chief minis ter adopted a tiger called Amulya for a year, which he has been renewing year-on year.

'A thriller provides immediate gratification'

Book Review: Catching the Departed
Author: Kulpreet Yadav
Publisher: Tara India Research Press
Pages: 255

A ghastly murder in the dead of night at a faraway village in the capital's underbelly sets the motion in 'Catching the Departed' - the first in the Andy Karan trilogy by author Kulpreet Yadav. Andy Karan is an investigative journalist with a mission. Monica, his boss at the New Delhi Today magazine, assigns him to unravel the mystery behind the death of a local lawyer. Slowly, Andy Karan embarks on a life-threatening journey that lands him into the centre of a much bigger conspiracy.

All about Andy Karan
The character of Andy Karan, also ex-Army personnel in the book, is modelled upon one of Mahabharata's legendary warriors and often misunderstood soldiers, Karan. Much like the hero from the epic, Andy refuses to walk the path of corruption and politics. He embodies all qualities of a patriot who is willing to die upholding the virtues of truth, friendship and love; but can never bring himself to live a borrowed life dictated by someone else's terms and conditions. "I wanted to create a character in his late twenties who mirrors young Indian men. Andy doesn't condemn the West but he is the right mix of Indian sensibilities and western inventiveness. 'Catching the Departed' celebrates the commitment of an Indian foot soldier, a faceless spy, who is prepared to fight the enemies of the nation," explains Kulpreet Yadav.

On writing thriller
This is the first time that Kulpreet Yadav has tried his hands on writing crime fiction. His previous books, 'The Bet' and 'A Waiting Wave' belonged to a different genre of literature. How did the transition happen? "Yes, my previous books had a literary slant. Today's readers, I have realised, are smarter and more knowledgeable. Entertainment has edged ahead of art. I chose to write a thriller because it provides immediate gratification. As a genre, I have been reading thrillers since childhood and I thought why not give the readers what they want," asserts Kulpreet.

A film in the making, perhaps?
The fast-paced narrative and suspense-filled plot are components that make the book read like a movie script. Prod the author on whether the novel was written with the intention of turning it into a screenplay later, and Kulpreet avers, "Many readers have told me that 'Catching the Departed' reads like a movie. Some have even suggested a cast and I am going crazy with the whole idea. The truth is I wanted to write a compelling story that is easy to relate to, and, has a good entertainment value. I wanted people to discover me as a good storyteller. But yes, if the book is optioned for a movie adaptation, my agent and I would welcome the idea. I think neo-Bollywood is ready for thrilling stories".

Not strong enough
The book fails to etch out strong women characters. Monica's presence in the book is peripheral. The plot drifts away from her, as though, deliberately. She is lovelorn, depressed and a journalist struggling to prove her worth to her boss. Her decisions are influenced by the men around her and she needs constant assurance from them. Quiz the author on this bleak characterisation and he refutes, "I wouldn't call Monica's character insipid. On the contrary, she is a strong woman who is protective and amenable to change at her age. But I agree that her appearance in the story is rather limited. I would love to write a thriller with a woman as sensuous and courageous as Monica in the lead one day".

Future projects
The other two titles in the Andy Karan series - 'Drowning the Pirate' and 'Eating the Dragon' are slated to release early 2015 and 2016 respectively. Apart from that, the author will continue to write short fiction for literary magazines in India and abroad.

About the author
Kulpreet Yadav is the author of 'Catching the Departed' (2014), the first in the Andy Karan series of crime thrillers. He is also the founder-editor of Open Road Review, a literary magazine with a global footprint. His short-fiction pieces have been shortlisted for numerous contests and have appeared in over 30 periodicals in India and elsewhere.

Signs you are about to be dumped

Here are some tell-tale signs that indicate you are about to be dumped

You may think that your relationship is very secure, but that may not be the case. Learn to read between the lines to make sure you know where your relationship is heading.

Cancels your dates: Now, we aren't saying that you need be worried the first time your boyfriend/girlfriend opts, but when it becomes a regular occurrence you definitely need to know the reason behind it. When you plan a date well in advance there's no reason why your partner has to be out working late that very day.

Wants to go out only in a group: Hanging out with friends actually helps a couple's relationship. However, when your partner refuses to plan a single solo date, you should question him about it. Like you shouldn't cut off your friends once you start dating, they shouldn't be the reason you get to hang out with your partner.

Ask you to 'connect' with your friends more often: When your girlfriend/boyfriend wants you to hang out with 'your' friends and not 'his' friends, that should get you thinking. Of course, you shouldn't obsess over getting friendly with his friends, but you should have some mutual friends.

No PDA please: Has simple things like holding hands or a peck on the cheek started embarrassing your boyfriend/girlfriend? It's time you figure out what happened to that 'I-can't-get-enough-of-you' phase.

Gets upset when you try to get intimate:
Does she always complain of a headache? Or does he always say he's too tired? If your partner comes up with such flimsy excuses almost every night then you really need to know what happened to that 'spark' between you.

Keeps you waiting... and waiting... If you find him putting you on hold and then forgetting to get back it means you aren't on his mind. Don't be foolish enough to wait for him for an hour to pick up the phone, instead go have a face-to-face chat with him.

Doesn't bother returning your calls: If/she refuses to revert to your calls and messages, it means you can't look the other way and hope that he/she changes her attitude. Your partner can't take you for granted and you have to tell him/her that clearly.

Needs some more 'space': When he/she starts inserting words like 'lack of space' very often while talking about your relationship, you should take some time out to do some re-thinking.

Refuses to discuss future: If your partner is unsure whether he wants to be with you for long, he is less likely to speak about a scenario involving the two of you in the future. If he refuses to move ahead, then maybe it's time for you to move on.

Calls you fat! Now that's hitting below the belt. If your girlfriend/boyfriend keeps making demands that you get a makeover, maybe you should ask him/her to get a new partner.

7 solid reasons you're not losing weight

Trying to lose weight, but cannot? Here are 7 reasons that could be getting in the way

Do you keep piling on the kilos, no matter how many diets you try? The problem may have more to do with your general health than with your food. Here are simple solutions that can help you beat the bulge.

Need more sleep
If you don't sleep well, then the body's hormone axis don't work properly. They affect metabolism and eventually lead to weight gain. Doctors say if you aren't sleeping, your body won't be digesting food normally either. Besides, people suffering from insomnia often snack through the night or drink coffee, which makes the problem worse.

Fix it: Get into a routine by going to bed at regular times and waking up at the same time, even during the weekends. Steer clear of caffeine after 4 pm and try to avoid iPhones or watching TV in your bedroom. Instead, unwind by reading before going to bed.

You're depressed
The problem here is twofold. Most people share an emotional relationship with food. So when depressed, they tend to eat more. However, antidepressants can also stimulate the appetite as, when people feel happier, thanks to the medication, they overeat.

Fix it: It's important not to use an increase in appetite as an excuse to eat the wrong foods. Instead, make sure you always have healthy snacks, such as fruit, nuts and seeds, on hand to stave off those pangs of hunger. If you feel your medication is to blame for your weight gain, then see your GP who might be able to prescribe alternatives.

You're stressed
When adrenaline (the stress hormone) kicks in, the body produces more cortisol, which in turn causes hunger. When you're stressed it's tempting to turn to unhealthy ready meals, high-calorie snacks or alcohol. Stress can also make you feel lethargic. All of these factors take their toll on the waistline.

Fix it: Even in times of stress, eat regular, healthy meals. People who are stressed at work tend to laze around in bed on weekends, but that makes matters worse. Unless you eat within half an hour of waking up, the body will go into fasting mode and store up the last meal in case you don't eat.

Thyroid to blame
Hypothyroidism, or an underactive thyroid, slows down the metabolism; many people find they put on weight while it goes undiagnosed. With treatment, the hormones will balance out and weight will soon return to normal.

Fix it: Symptoms of hypothyroidism include tiredness, constipation, aches, dry skin, lifeless hair and feeling cold. If you experience any of these, see your GP for a blood test.

PCOS syndrome
Many overweight women suffer from polycystic ovary syndrome, or PCOS. They have a resistance to insulin, just like people with diabetes, which in the case of PCOS makes it difficult for them to convert the male hormone testosterone in the ovaries into the female hormone oestrogen.

Higher levels of testosterone in the body will make sufferers put on weight and the insulin resistance does the same thing because the body can't utilise the calories it is taking in.

Fix it: Patients are treated with metformin (the same medication given to type 2 diabetics). It reduces the insulin resistance, which rectifies the hormone balance. They are also encouraged to maintain a healthy lifestyle by eating well and exercising regularly. Other symptoms of PCOS include excessive body hair, irregular periods, infertility, hair loss and acne.

Eating late at night
Studies have shown that people who consume the same calories as others, but eat them an hour or two before going to bed will put on more weight than those who eat earlier. This is because the body is aware that you are not being active, so it stores the calories by turning them into fat. It takes the body longer to convert this stored fat into energy again.

Fix it: Eat your main meal at lunchtime and then have a smaller, lighter meal in the evening, at least three hours before going to bed. The body's ability to digest food reduces as the sun sets.

You've cut out carbs
We all know you need a balanced diet to be healthy but for many of us, cutting out carbs is a sure-fire way to reduce a few kilos quickly. However, when you eliminate something from your diet, the body starts to crave it. Carbs are important building blocks for the body to turn into energy.

Fix it: Eat healthy carbs, such as wholemeal breads, rotis, and brown rice. Avoid diets that ban them.

Lifting the veil off emergency contraceptive

Written By Unknown on Selasa, 28 Oktober 2014 | 18.48

If you needed emergency contraception would you know where to get it and how to take it?

In a recent survey conducted by sexual health charity FPA, in the UK, 59 per cent of women said that they know only `a little' about emergency contraception, while 12 per cent said they `don't know very much'.Meanwhile, three per cent said they know `nothing'. The survey of over 2,000 women aged between 16 and 54, also revealed some worrying trends around what women wrongly believe to be true.

India is no different. From the hundreds of queries Mirror's sex expert Dr Mahinder Watsa receives every week, those surrounding emergency contraceptives are the most common from women readers. Here's clarity on six common emergency contraception myths:

MYTH: The `morning after pill' is the only option

FACT:

There are two types of emergency contraception available to access if you have unprotected sex or your usual contraceptive method fails. While several brands of the pills are available in the market, they have to be taken within 72 hours of the sexual act. There is also the option of having an emergency IUD fitted from a credible medical expert. An IUD -or intrauterine device -is a small plastic and copper device that can be fitted into your uterus up to five days after unprotected sex. You can choose to keep the IUD as your usual method of contraception for up to five or 10 years.

MYTH: I need a prescription

FACT:

Recent findings showed that over one third of women believe you need to have a prescription from a GP to access an emergency contraceptive pill. But most brands are widely available to buy over the counter from pharmacies without a prescription. MYTH It's like an abortion

FACT:

Fifty per cent of women questioned believed that using emergency contraception causes an abortion, or they weren't sure.Emergency contraceptive pills stop the release or fertilisation of an egg, or prevent a fertilised egg from implanting in the uterus. Medical research and legal judgement are clear that this is a way to prevent pregnancy and is not abortion. Abortion is a way to end pregnancy and can only take place once the fer tilised egg has implanted in the womb. The two are very distinct.

MYTH: I have to use it within 24 hours of having unprotected sex

FACT:

The widely used phrase `morning after pill' has not helped to bust this myth, as it inaccurately suggests that emergency contraception has to be taken straight away. Most pills have to be taken within three days of having unprotected sex.

MYTH: I can't use the pill more than once in the same cycle

FACT:

Experts will tell you that misuse of the morning after pill can put your hormonal cycle off whack. However, you can take the emergency contraceptive pill more than once in the same cycle.

MYTH: It will make me infertile

FACT:

Almost two-thirds of women surveyed believed they could become infertile through repeated use of emergency contraception, or they weren't sure. Using the emergency contraceptive pill repeatedly can disrupt your natural menstrual cycle, but it will not make you infertile. Remember, emergency contraceptives aren't intended as regular forms of contraception.

If you are looking for a regular contraceptive, you need to consult your gynaecologist about information on birth control pills or oral contraceptive pills. It contains two hormones, an oestrogen and a progestogen, and changes the body's hormone balance so that your ovaries do not ovulate (produce an egg). It also causes the mucus made by the neck of the cervix to thicken and form a plug. What this does is make it tough for the sperm to travel through to the uterus to fertilise an egg.Additionally, it also makes the lining of the womb thinner, thereby reducing the chances of a fertilised egg from attaching to the uterus.

Gently and softly: Suppose you and your partner have just started kissing and you are about to shift your gears to a deeper kiss, then you should gently start to take the lead by placing your hands on either side of her face and guiding your lips in. When you cup her face in your palms during the kiss, you control the amount of pressure of your mouth on her and she also feels the warmth of your hand on her skin. (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

02

Be vocal: You should be at least a little vocal during your lovemaking and post lovemaking about how kissing her turns you on. You should let her know that she has an exciting effect on you and her breath makes you all the more crazy for her. It is important to not only tell your girl how gorgeous she is, but also that she is great kisser. Women also do have egos and flattery hurt no one. (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

03

Your mind matters: Strive to give the right pressure of your lips on hers. You do not have to have luscious lips, you do not have to be Mr. Macho and you do not have to have a flat stomach and cute butt. These are not qualifications to be a good kisser. What is needed is the interest to make your woman feel nice. Your mind is the biggest sex organ and your lips are the twin warriors in the game of love and lust. (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

04

Practice: Practice makes you perfect. To incorporate new kissing techniques, you can look in a mirror and watch yourself kiss your arm or hand. Imagine how the heat of her lips will feel on yours, how arousing her breath will be, how sweet her saliva will taste and try to imagine every texture and aspect of her lips. This may sound silly but when you are totally in it and concentrate on the sensation, you will get more confidence and flow during the actual kiss. (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

Be romantic: A woman's body is the free range of sensitive zones, which are kiss worthy. You can kiss her earlobe or graze your lips behind her ears. You can softly place your lips on the tip of her nose and give her a cute kiss. The kiss, which you can lay on the back of her neck, can be really romantic to her. (Thinkstock Photos/Getty Images)

Freezing eggs for your career is like a devil's bargain!

With two corporate bigwigs announcing financial assistance to allow women employees to freeze their eggs, Hyderabad Times asks what female workers in the city think about the idea
The perks of being a female employee in the corporate world just got bigger with two Silicon Valley giants offering to cover the costs of egg freezing for non-med ical reasons. The out-of-the-box sop has triggered a huge debate across the world. In Hyderabad though, most women reckon this latest c incentive might not do any good for them.
A NEW WAY OF EXPLOITATION

While egg freezing might seem like a boon for career driven women who prefer to post pone pregnancy to climb up the corpo rate ladder, many see it as a booby trap.Babita Garg, mother of a two-year-old, says, "It is an out rageous idea. As it is, most of our lives' decisions are dependent on the na ture of our work. And now, if our repro ductive choices are also influenced by our employers, it might just make us corporate slaves! The very idea that my company can, indirectly , have a say in my decision to have a child, seems very intrusive."

Echoing similar thoughts, Esha Talwar, a 32-year-old corporate lawyer, says, "It is like a devil's bargain. On the outset, it might seem like a woman's decision to have babies might become independ ent of cultural, professional and bio logical pressures. But egg freezing is supposed to be an option for women who have some medical problems. It isn't meant for those who want to go up the ladder without a break! Going against nature will do more harm than good. In fact, there's never a convenient time for a working woman to have a baby , as it is influenced by a plethora of reasons and not just one."

Experts warn that egg freezing is not fool proof. Gynecologist Dr Bimal John says, "By itself, the move to aid egg freezing sounds incorrect, as it can urge people to see it as a justification to postpone pregnancy .Egg freezing technology has caught on, but it is not fool-proof yet. Unless in experienced hands, the process can also be risky and there is a probability of the ovaries getting punctured during the procedure."

EMBRACE OTHER OPTIONS INSTEAD

Many women feel if companies want to show that they care about their women workforce, they could come up with better work environment. Neidhi Kumaar, a 28-year-old working with an IT company , says, "I think we should follow the natural process. Delaying could be good for some, but it shouldn't be used as a reason to increase women workforce. Companies need to understand that women have additional responsibilities outside of work and she will divide her time between work and family . I would rely on my family for support rather than opt at freezing the eggs."

Babita adds, "Work places can provide flexible work hours, day-care benefits, work-from-home benefits for a few days in a week. Things like these will help women get back in the system successfully after the birth."

A NECESSARY EVIL

While the idea has sparked multiple debates, some women feel this may come as a handy option for those who are unable to bear a child because of personal as well as professional reasons. Divya, who is up for the idea, says, "It is a necessary evil -evil because it's not how things are supposed to be, but it will be a great thing for women. Egg freezing will give any woman an opportunity to choose what she wants and have both career and family on her terms -and not pay for it as well."

First-date rules for women revealed

Written By Unknown on Senin, 27 Oktober 2014 | 18.48

Reality TV star and blogger Lucy Watson has shared certain rules of dating in the 21st century.

The UK star of BAFTA award-winning lifestyle show 'Made in Chelsea' reveals experiences of serial cheaters, public betrayals and sex scandals in her new book, 'The Dating Game', News.com.au reported.

She advises women to always let guys make the first move.

Her rules for texting include: keep texting brief; don't reply to text messages straight away and never text more than twice in a row.

Here is her advice on preparing for the first date with the new man in your life:

- Go for drinks, not supper. Organise to go for a drink first.
- If you are getting on well, then go for supper. You don't want to rock up to a restaurant and have to endure hours of awkwardness till the bill arrives. So, always do a test drink first.
- Try to keep yourself busy. Otherwise you'll totally overthink it. Try to distract yourself as much as possible beforehand.
- Look good without overdoing it. On a first date she advises to wear jeans, or smart trousers, with a cool top and heels.
- Show off your best assets but not at the same time.
- Smell good. Pack your handbag with perfume and mints. Smell good, but don't drown yourself in it.
- Don't wear lots of make-up on a first date. If looking natural isn't good enough for him, then he isn't even vaguely good enough for you.
- And lastly, don't turn up drunk.

Go backless in different ways

If you are confident enough, then there are different ways of showing skin. You can show off your legs, shoulders, midriff or back, whichever you are comfortable with.

Backless top If you want to do a Kim Kardashian, then all you have to do is get a backless top and pair it with nice-fitting jeans. This is perhaps the easiest way to go backless, as you will look stylish, and be yourself too.

Sport a gown Gowns are the most preferred way of going backless. Countless celebrities have done this by appearing on the red carpets. When you wear a gown, usually the cups are stitched on to it so that you don't have to worry about wearing a bra. Sienna Miller shows us how.

Go with the choli If you are a sari person, you can also wear a backless choli that can help you flaunt your back in style. If you are conscious about your back, you can cover with the pallu at times or use makeup to hide blemishes. Shilpa Shetty rocks the look.

Try sheer There are times when you want to show off your back but are not too confident about it. That's when you can opt for sheer. This can be used in the case of gowns, tops, dresses and more. The sheer elements can be stitched also separately to the piece of garment you opt for and later taken out. Selena Gomez's sheer dress shows us how.

Accessorize A lot of times celebrities have also used the help of accessories when going backless. There are a lot of options available now like chains and beads that not only stylize your look, but also make you look elegant. Take a lesson from Jennifer Lawrence on how to do it.

5 rivalry issues among twins

A sibling can be fun, right from having someone to play with to that one person who is always all ears to your issues.

However, there's more to this than just fun, siblings face a lot of compatibility issues that multiplies with twins. Here's a peak into five issues that twins face as a part of growing up as well as later in life.

Identity crisis Although, onlookers might think wearing similar dresses is cool, most twins detest this. "I would hate wearing the same dress like my sister's on most special occasions. This would add to the confusion and would get extremely annoying," says Nitya Singhal, a BMM student. Identity crisis is one of the biggest issues that twins face; they are often mistaken as the other one. This creates a lot of rifts between the two, and in most cases stays with them even after they grow up.

Coping with competition Most twins are characteristically different from each other, they have complete unique qualities. However, if one is better than the other, it creates a lot of problem for the other one to cope with the constant competition. Parents, teachers and friends start comparing the two in terms of good and bad, which worsens with age. "In fact, there are times when this competitive feeling makes either one dominating or suppressive," says Girija Nair, a counsellor.

Career choices "To each his own, if one is a brilliant student and chooses to be an engineer and the other one an artist, doesn't mean that the other one is in any way less in abilities. Career choice is a major issue among identical twins as people think they have the same aptitude," adds Nair. Although, they look similar, most twins are poles apart when it comes to making choices. Nonetheless, twins are subject to constant advices from people about the choices they make in life, especially about their careers.

Peer pressure It usually happens with twins when they are in schools and colleges, their aptitude in studies and the choice of friends is very closely noticed. If one has better grades and good camaraderie, while the other turns out to be a vagabond, everyone seems to be eyeing their moves. In fact, friends and relatives start questioning the weaker twin about his/her whereabouts and constantly pressurise him/her to follow the better twin.
Who gets better with age? Although, competition and envy take a backseat with age, what creeps in are ego clashes, concerns if the other one looks better with age and if they live a better life. "A lot of these issues are never surfaced; it's only the twins who experience these internal conflicts. It bitters their relationship further, and hence what looks like the ideal pair of siblings gradually turns into people who hardly extend a hand to each other," says relationship counsellor Sadhana Patil.

Essential nutrients every woman needs

Women, don't take your health for granted. Ensure that these nutrients are a regular part of your diet...

Calcium: Women have a tendency to suffer from weak bones, especially as they age. This is why calcium is so very important to build strong bones. An estimated 30 million women suffer from osteoporosis in India. And while awareness has increased in recent years, women still need to wake up to the importance of calcium in their diet. Ensure you consume plenty of dairy products. Fortified juice, yogurt and soy milk are great sources of calcium.

Iron: A deficiency in iron can cause anaemia — a very common problem among women. Iron gets oxygen to your cells and a lack of it makes you lethargic and tired. Include lean meat like chicken and turkey as well as fortified cereals and beans in your diet.

Vitamin D: The calcium you consume will be useless if your body does not produce adequate vitamin D, which helps your body absorb calcium. Vitamin D is found in fish like tuna and salmon as well as in fortified orange juice.

Folic acid: While folic acid is very important for pregnant women, it is essential for the rest as well. Experts say that folic acid helps your cells divide and is found in green, leafy vegetables, juices, beans, fortified cereal and nuts.

Protein: An important nutrient in building healthy bones and muscles, protein also fights germs, breaks down everything you eat and controls your metabolism. Found in poultry, red meat, fish and nuts, studies say that women require at least 45 grams of protein daily.

Fibre: Not only does fibre keep your blood sugar and cholesterol levels in check, it also help you digest your food better. Fibre is found in vegetables, fruits, whole-grain breads and cereals, nuts and beans.

Vitamin C: Want healthy bones and glowing skin? Make sure you're getting enough vitamin C. Stock up on red pepper, broccoli and citrus fruits. Drink orange juice at least thrice a week.

Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega-3 fatty acids are 'good' fats known to reduce the risk of heart disease. And you can find it in fish like sardines, salmon, herring, trout and mackerel. Walnuts and flaxseeds also contain omega-3 fatty acids.

Why a rebound relationship is good for you

Though many say that you should be careful when going in for a rebound, it actually helps you in more ways than one. Here's how...

As much as people warn against going in for a rebound relationship, there's no reason why you should feel bad. No matter what, it makes you feel happy and be loved again. Here is why a rebound works —

It fills the void in your life: Right after you break up, you naturally start missing your ex. And chances are you might end up texting him or calling him again, which may make matters worse. If you fall into a rebound at this stage, you will find it easy to move on in life.

Brings excitement back into your life: Why should you grieve over a relationship which didn't work out at all? Though a bit of grieving is okay, if you keep feeling bad for it for a long time, you are sure to lose your mental stability. Whereas, if you get into a rebound, you will find love and happiness once again in your life and feel happy about it.

Might mature into a better relationship: Don't ignore getting into a rebound. You may never know whether this relationship has anything good in store for you in the long run.

Six awful things you can say to a guy

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 26 Oktober 2014 | 18.47

Things were going swimmingly well until your last outburst. He has suddenly gone into a shell and snapped all communication with you.

You fear having meandered into a forbidden territory, and that things might never be the same again. But still can't point at what exactly went wrong?

One scathing remark is all it takes to shut him down, so even while you are in the middle of a serious fight, remember your vocabulary is key. Jesting about his mom, reminding him of an ex, are just some of the terrible things you can ever say to him. And in so doing create lasting scars in your relationship. We list six awful phrases that turn him red in the face, and need to be done away with...pronto.

'Look how smart my brother is, you can never be like him'
Comparisons drive men away! So, simply stop making them, even if they are genuine. Particularly comparisons with your brother, father or worst of all another guy friend can trigger resentment in him. Feels Santosh Krishna, a software engineer, "As long it is a fair argument, I am all for it. But the moment my wife brings her father or brother in the frame, I withdraw. It is extremely demeaning for a guy who is doing his two bit to make her happy."

Agreed, he may not have control over situations the way your father does and usually fidgets his way out, but never insult him by telling him so, even in the most deranged of moments.

'I just know you can't get over her'
If you think this is the best way of getting back at him, then think again. Fine, you want to find out a few intimate details about his past life, but just watch out - never force your way through. He shall not take such an intrusion kindly. Furthermore, it'll only distance you from him, and he might think of you as someone very insecure in relationships. It's best to leave it at that and save him the discomfort. On many instances you end up reminding him fondly of an ex. So, simply steer clear of the subject. If it is out of bounds, so be it.

Chips in Ashrita Reys doing her masters in English, "I had a bad fight with my boyfriend once and accused him of still loving an ex. He gave me a glowering look and offered to drop me back home. It was strange, hadn't thought he would take serious offence."

'God, how much money do you blow on your friends!'
Remember, they are 'His' friends, and he shall splurge on him as he desires. Your constant reminders can make him jerky, and one day he might simply stop sharing money matters with you. Guys hate to be told how to spend, especially on their friends. And if you are having trouble with his spending ways, tell him so in other words, but never accusingly. "My boyfriend always ends up paying up for dinner, drinks etc when he is out with his friends. Oddly, they never even offer and he is okay with it. But gets annoyed when I tell him not to do so," says Sunaina Verma, a travel consultant.

For him, money is one thing and friends another. He will take you as a friendship breaker if you attempted to blend the two together. So, save your lecture on managing finances for another occasion!

'What's with your mom, does she always have a poker face'
He may have promised you the moon and the stars and to love you till the end of the world, but one snide remark directed at his mom can suddenly turn you into a villain. Yes, that is one relationship he jealously guards, and shall not let even you meddle with. His mom's cold indifference or those long glances may have you squirming in discomfiture, but steer clear of voicing them to him. He will simply regard you as snooty and disrespectful towards elders.

Sritapa Roy who recently got engaged to her long-time boyfriend has a say, "My would-be-mum-in-law always makes me uncomfortable, she casts long, considering looks when I talk. I did try to broach the issue with my fiance but he turned it down calling me selfish and cynical."

'Not today please, I am too sleepy'
Using a line like this will not only turn him off, but also make him wonder if he is with the right girl. He might start considering that a life with you would be full of drab domestic chores, grocery shopping and winding up before the television by day end. By depriving him of any kind of bedroom thrill you might pass on the message, though inadvertently, that 'sex with you is no longer pleasurable'. And wake up to a sea change in his mannerism. As a couple it is fair to talk it out, but to come up with banal excuses each time you don't want to have sex is sacrilege.

Explains Prashant Sirohi, a marketing executive, "My ex girlfriend was never in a mood for lovemaking. I thought the idea of sex with me put her off. So, gradually I started distancing myself from her, and subsequently we broke up."

Using the 'F' word
'F' words may be acceptable in general arguments, but to actually use one on your partner could spell doom for your relationship. It is absolutely unforgivable and he will loathe you for it. Even if you both make up for the fight later, you are assured he'll never completely forget about it.

Saloni Shah, pursuing her MBA thinks, abusing your partner is the worst thing you can do to your relationship. "In the middle of a fiery argument with my husband I blurted out the 'F' word, and suddenly everything around me went quiet. He dropped the discussion and did not speak to me for over a week. I still feel guilty about it," says she.

So, even when your rage turns tempestuous, there is sanity in not letting go of your vocabulary.

Book review: Little Women and Me

Check out the modern take on the original classic

Those who love the Little Women, the timeless classic by Louisa May Alcott will love this book, Little Women and Me by Lauren Baratz-Logstead, which takes all kinds of liberties with the original story. This is the story of a young girl called Emily who has been given an assignment in school where she has to pick her favourite story and then change it around. Emily, of course, does not need too much time to decide. She chooses her all time favourite book, 'Little Women' to work on, but as she gets into her project, she suddenly finds that she has become a part of the story itself.

So, within the first few chapters we get to meet the new Emily, who has been transported back in time and is now the middle sister of the March family. She is the sister who fits into story seamlessly, and we get to see each chapter of the original book, now rewritten with Emily's perspective on things.

Since Emily is a contemporary teenager, she brings a lot of modern vocabulary into the narrative but she does not use any kind of slang, in case people recognise her for who she is -- a girl caught in the wrong time zone. Sometimes she slips up and uses words like 'dude' but then she has to wriggle out of the situation as carefully as possible.

The book is targeted for young adults but this is a very enjoyable novel for all fans of the old classic, no matter what the age group. Some of the chapters might seem like sacrilege for devoted fans, especially when some of the moving scenes when seen through the eyes of a modern teenager are depicted as trite and horribly outdated. But if you skip through them, you find that the story is as engrossing as the original was, when you first read it.

Should you pick up this book? Yes, if you love Alcott and would do anything to read more about Meg, Jo, Amy and Beth and the family. But no, if you don't want anyone to sully the image of the story in all its original beauty.

Little Women & Me is a clever take on an old story and a must-read for those who would love to check out how classics can take on a fresh perspective altogether.

Tips for those with arthritis

One of the most common ailments that elders suffer from is arthritis. Swelling in joints and acute pain are some of its characteristics, making it difficult for the person to even perform normal activities. Here are some points to keep in mind so that people with arthritis don't strain their joints much:-

Never put pressure on any one particular joint. For instance, if you are pushing the cupboard to another place or opening a door, make sure you use both your hands or knees to do the same. Spreading the strain equally on all joints will ease out the pain.
Don't sit in the same position for longer hours. Take a small break in between, go for a short walk in the open or pace the length of the room. Once you form a pattern, stick to it.

Leading a sedentary lifestyle is not advisable for people with arthritis. Activities are not harmful, you just need to do them wisely. Push, slide or shove things instead of lifting them. Use your palms to hold things, use your side to push heavy items instead of your thigh or knees.

Restrict bending. Organise your house in such a way that you can reach the items you need by just extending your hand. Bending down unnecessarily will cause excess strain to the joints. In case you have to bend down, keep your back straight to even the pressure.

Do your kids need to know your marital woes?

If talking to children about sex is considered taboo in India, then it's a foregone conclusion that discussing marriage-related issues are absolute no-nos. However, relationship counsellors believe that talking about marriage-related issues with one's child can help strenghthen between a parent and a child.

"The scenario is different now. One must, in fact, address any such issues with one's children as they have the right to know what is going on in your life. Especially since, directly or indirectly, they are going to be affected by it too. It's an education of sorts for them," says relationship counsellor Seema Hingorrany.

But the next question that springs to the mind is — How much is too much when discussing a relationship issue with your kids? Says clinical psychologist Mimrah Ansari, "Before you discuss any problem related to your marriage with your children, you must consider their age. Further, if there is something disturbing at school or house that they have recently been through, it is best to hold back and seek a better time to share your emotions with them. Make sure that your child is ready to hear you out."

Ways to address the issue
- Make it effortless and thoughtful:
A great way to initiate a discussion about marital issues with your child is by making him/her understand why you and your spouse are going through a difficult time. This is not a blame-game session, so restrict talking ill about your partner. What he/she should know is what has gone wrong and how you both plan to resolve it following the talk with your child.

- Keep his/her age in mind: Hingorrany says, "Talking to a child about relationship issues is difficult, especially since he/she is at an age where understanding the intricacies of a relationship is tough. You may have to explain the situation in such a manner that it will be easy for your child to understand what you are talking about."

- Keep explanations positive: Your kid may not be able to fathom the gravity of the differences between his/her parents. It is important to realise that you are talking about a parent (you or your spouse) and making your better-half look evil in front of them may not go down too well with the child.

- Don't expect suggestions: Discussing woes does not mean that you look out for suggestions from your child. He/she is not in a position to offer you solutions for your marital woes, so it would be foolish of you to expect them to do so.

- Keep a watch on your child: Since you have shared a part of your life, which is not rosy, to your child, be alert to his/her reactions. If you see him/her unhappy, make it a point to ask every now and then if he/she's okay. Speak positive things, so that your child is reassured that his/her parents are working towards their relationship.

- Take your child along for therapy: Make sure to have your child accompany you on your visit to the therapist; it is a great way to boost his/her morale. At times, when you are going through a tough time yourself, you may not be in a state of mind to think positively. It's exactly the time you allow a therapist to step into your shoes, to ensure that the child looks at the brighter side of a relationship.

What a parent should do to make sure that the child does not slip into depression
When you talk to your child about marriage-related issues, the chance of him/her slipping into depression is big. If your child is under the age of 12, make sure that you and your spouse sit together to discuss and assure your child that both of you would work things out if you are meant to be together. However, if your child is above the age of 12, you can either talk to him or her, or take the help of a family member to discuss the issue with your child. Being open and honest with your child will help him understand your situation well.

Best foods for quick weight loss

No matter how healthy your daily routine might be, sometimes, the sudden need for quick weight loss manages to creep in unannounced.

Whatever the reason - a school re-union or your 30th birthday - none of us are above the need to lose weight and lose it fast. And here's some good news: Coupled with the right exercise and healthy nutrient intake you can lose weight quickly and surely by consuming these best foods for quick weight loss. Remember the first tenet of a healthy diet is portion control, and you're on your way to quick weight loss success...

Lean protein: A recent study from Purdue University has proved yet again that lean protein enables weight loss through appropriate appetite control. While non-vegetarians can get lean proteing from lean meat and egg white, vegetarians should look to include these protein foods in their daily diet: Chickpeas, soyabeans, kidney beans, tofu, other beans and pulses, and dairy. Even peanut butter is a good substitute as an appetite controller here.

Fruits and vegetables: This is a best practise followed by people who lose permanent weight successfully. Even if you love meat, including at least 2-3 whole fruits and a side serving of vegetables with each meal goes a long way in curbing your appetite and enabling quick weight loss. So leave those diet pills, exotic foods that you buy just once and never eat again, and step over to the neighbourhood grocery store. Your best bet with quick weight loss lies within these humble, yet extremely healthy, fruits and vegetables.

Broth-based soups: Pureed and chunky broth (not cream) based hot soups tend to satisfy a range of food cravings, while filling you up on low-calorie healthy foods. Additionally, making these soups at home is quite simple. Just buy some vegetables, puree the pulpy ones, chop the hard ones, start with a steam or stir fry and slowly add water with stock for volume. Don't forget the seasoning. Quick weight loss largely depends on how you control your appetite with healthy substitutes to unhealthy, high-fat and creamy foods.

Whole grain: A list of best foods for quick weight loss can never be complete without whole grains. Even without changing other areas of your daily diet, just a shift from processed to whole grain will work wonders for quick weight loss. Whole grains are nutrient-packed powerhouses and are excellent appetite controllers.

Low-salt and low-starch foods: Cutting back on sodium and high-starch foods (read: bad carbs) results in a kind of cheat weight loss, which - if properly maintained can lead to permanent weight loss. In the short run, this strategy leads to low fluid retention and what you lose initially is 'water weight'. This is why most weight loss diets that promise quick weight loss begin with a no-carb, no-salt shock phase. You can do this cleverly by cutting down reasonably and continuing a daily exercise routine to maintain healthy appetite and calorie burn.

Death & resurrection of the superhero

With popular mutant Wolverine set to meet his end soon, the comic book world will see the death of yet another superhero. But panic not, they are bound to return.

Wolverine fans need to brace themselves. Your beloved superhero is really dying! The first in the four-part comic series, titled Death of Wolverine, has hit the stands and by the end of it, one of the world's most famous mutants will take his last breath. Wolverine, who first appeared in 1974 with his long retractable claws, will lose his self-healing abilities and by the fourth edition of the series, he will meet his makers.

When superheroes are made to die in the comic book world, fans, though initially upset, don't panic altogether — for history has proved that superheroes generally don't die; they just disappear from the scene for some time, only to make a comeback — stronger, smarter and more popular. Take for instance Batman, Spider Man and Superman. In 2012, the web-spinning hero Spider Man faced death at the hands of Doctor Octopus. Then, in 2008, it was Batman's turn to die. The hero, who has been on a mission to save Gotham city, met his end while battling enemy Mangrove Pierce. And in 1992, in the comic The Death of Superman, the flying superhero, popular for wearing underwear over his pants, died after succumbing to battle injuries. But then, they all made a comeback from the grave, to keep us entertained with their superhero abilities and activities.

A superhero's death isn't a new phenomenon. In fact, death of hero has often been glorified in infinite number of stories. But why do creators resort to killing off the hero in comic books? "It is all about sympathy," explains Jatin Varma, founder of an Indian comic convention, adding, "A hero dying while fighting enemies is something the readers empathise with."

Apart from the 'sympathy factor', it's the limitations of the script and story that has a role to play in makers putting an end to the character. With nothing new to offer readers, makers often decide to do away with the hero, at least for some time. "No story is infinite. After a point, there's nothing new you can show in a character. So, a hero is killed and then reincarnated. It is more like a Season 2, with fresh plot and same characters," explains Jatin. But there are times when comic books bank on killing the hero as marketing gimmick, says Jai Undurti of the Hyderabad Graphic Novel Project. "After a comic character is around for a long time, it becomes stale and repetitive, so it goes out of sight. Killing and then reincarnating the character is more like re-launch it in the market again. It excites the readers and comics go off-the-shelf quickly," opines Jai.

Ultimately, it's the thrill that fans experience that makes the death of a hero a monumental time in the comic book history. Talking about his personal experience, Jatin says, "If you follow comics, you would know that characters don't really die. It is only for some series. But for a fan, the thrill comes from knowing how the particular story is executed, and not the death, per se. I remember, when Superman died in 1992, comics weren't that easily available. I was a fan then, and it got me so fascinated."

Sachin Gupta, a city student and comic books collector, says, "We love our superheroes and most of us grow up reading about them. So, when the news of their death comes, even if it is temporary, it gets us all worked up and hooked to the series."

Demand of the script or a marketing gimmick, is certainly a hit formula that is here to stay.

How to plump your lips

Envy actresses like Nargis Fakhri, Priyanka Chopra, and Hollywood A-lister Angelina Jolie's full lips? Here's how you can get them...
Hydrate: It is vital that you keep your lips hydrated by drinking enough water every day. Drinking sufficient water will help you get plump lips. Use a good lip balm with SPF.
Exfoliate: The next time you exfoliate, don't restrict it to just your body. Mix brown sugar and coconut oil and gently exfoliate your lips. This increases blood flow.
Steam: Apply a generous layer of petroleum jelly or thick lip balm before you take a shower. Don't wipe it off while you're taking a shower as the steam will help the jelly or balm penetrate, resulting in smooth lips.
Peppermint oil: Sometimes, irritating your skin could actually give you desired results. That's what happens when peppermint oil is rubbed on lips. It irritates the lips enough to cause them to swell slightly and adds a temporary flush of colour.
Lip plumper: Invest in a good lip plumper or hyaluronic acid and apply it once a day. When putting in on, open your mouth as wide as you can to get the best effect.
Highlight: An instant lip-plumping makeup trick is to use a highlighter to the cupid's bow and a shimmering balm to the bottom of your lips to make them appear larger. You can also apply a pink-toned lipstick and follow it up with a slightly darker colour. Top off with lip gloss, and you are ready to hit the party with a big pout!
Capsicum oil: Hunt down a bottle of oil extracted from red hot peppers and use your fingertips for just a hint on your lips. It will improves blood circulation and act as a natural plumping serum.
Beeswax: Heard all the hoopla surrounding the celebrity craze for lethal bee venom? Try the less notorious beeswax on your lips. It is a major component in organic lip balms.
Makeup illusion: Whip out your favourite pink lipstick and a lip liner in a slightly darker shade. Finish off with a light-reflecting gloss for an irresistible pout.
Essential oil: A tiny amount of pure cinnamon oil extract is an aromatic wellness package for the lips. Apply it in a circular motion for greater impact.
Grin wide: A smile goes a mile in plumping your lips up. Even blowing a kiss or beaming at your beau exercises them and making them fuller.

Ways to cope with cyberbullying

You only need to log on to a popular video-sharing website to witness one version of cyberbullying that plagues the internet — people having arguments galore on the comments section of any given video.

On some videos that deal with sensitive topics, the comments resemble a gloves-off, full on brawl. Cyberbullying is a broad term under which the above mentioned behaviour falls. It takes place over any kind of electronic media and can take a great emotional toll on the victim that can have some serious real-world consequences.

Here are a few tips to nip this menace in the bud:
If you receive harassing messages on your phone, save screenshots of the same. Threatening messages can thus be conveniently reported to the authorities. If your child happens to be getting messages from his peers, these saved messages can be shown to the parents of the cyberbully so that the latter can be corrected.

A lot of phones have a facility whereby you can block calls from a certain user. This goes for messages to. Simply treat it as 'spam'.

Resist the temptation to reply, as that can only exacerbate the problem. Besides, it is probably what the cyberbully wants you to do. If you do, however, feel compelled to reply to a deliberately rude comment on your status message for example, do so. Let that person get the message and then simply delete the conversation and block the offender. Never get more involved than you absolutely need to.

Few people can remain truly anonymous on the internet these days. If you are receiving threatening messages from someone hiding behind a veil of anonymity, try to get their IP address traced.

The offender could also be someone you have communicated with in the past, who is trying to annoy you for whatever reason. If they are using a nickname, key in their user name in the 'search' field of your inbox and look for any evidence of past communication. This could help you to identify the person.

Trolling as a form of cyberbullying

What to do when someone is cyberbullying you on your social networking page.

Social networking websites take the issue of cyberbullying very seriously. If the victimisation is bad enough, the sites even encourage you to contact your local police authorities to get help on the matter.

All the major social networking websites, video sharing sites and photo blog sites have links from where you can report abuse.

E-shopping made easy

Tech-savvy millennials prefer internet shopping over thronging crowded malls. Here are a few tips to be a smart e-shopper.

Whether it's shopping for your day-to-day groceries, home products, electronic gadgets or revamping your entire wardrobe - today's smart shoppers can do all of the above, from the comforts of their home. If the rise in e-shoppers in India is anything to go by, you may never have to go to the mall again. According to a survey by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM), shopping trends of Indian consumers have witnessed a significant change this summer - online shopping has shown more than 155 per cent rise as compared to last year's 85 per cent.

Online shopping is convenient, cheaper and gives the buyer an abundance of choice from around the world.

Says Narinder Singh, director of online portal Numero-Uno, "Shopping on the internet saves time, energy and money.

It provides more options in terms of brands, designs etc. Going to a mall or a store means spending more time commuting, wasting money on fuel and parking fee. Also, good deals aren't always available in traditional shopping centres, vis-a-vis online stores."

Saurabh Malik, Business Head, Indiatimes Shopping, adds, "Thanks to online shopping, today, a youngster from a relatively unknown town in India can buy top fashion brands and the latest smartphone in the market. E-shopping is driving a huge lot of aspirational youth from tier II and tier III towns to match their upcountry counterparts and save a good amount of money on top of it."

Apart from heavy discounts; cus tomer-friendly policies, flexible delivery timelines and free returns make eshopping an irresistible option.

GET THE BEST DEALS

1. Use coupon or promotional codes: Apart from its convenience, one of the biggest reasons why people prefer shopping on the internet is that it gives you the opportunity to avail discounts all through the year, even when it isn't sale season! What's more, coupon codes help you save even more money.

How to get the code: Enter the merchant's website with the word `coupon' or `promotional code', to get a discount on your product or on shipping costs or both. Since the discounts are often on select products, make sure the ones you have chosen fall under the `discount' category. Apply the right code.

2. Ditch your shopping cart: If you aren't in a rush to get your shop ping delivered immediately, once you have got all your products in the cart, save the cart and leave it for a day or two (don't checkout and pay). The online portal will send you an added discount coupon to try to convince you to buy the cart!

3. Compare products to get the best deal: If you want to buy a phone or any other electronic gadget, go for price comparison websites that allow you to compare prices available on different websites. This will help you avail the best discount offer.

4. Scout social networking sites: Many shopping websites and por tals give away special discount coupons or announce their sales first on networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. This will give you a headstart.

5. Browse through customer re views: Most websites have a section under their products for feedback given by other customersusers. At times, a product may not be as it is displayed. The reviews help you make informed decisions. It's always good to know whether the product you are buying is your money's worth or not because with online shopping, people tend to buy things on a whim.

BEWARE OF...

A buyer should always be careful about fraudulent sites. Says Vivek Sethi, co-founder, http:www.solester.com, "Always ensure a secure checkout. Before you purchase an item, look for HTTPS at the beginning of the web address on the transaction page - it indicates a secure connection. Addresses that begin with HTTP, without the `S' aren't secure and can result in your payment details being stolen and misused."

Dos & don'ts

One big drawback of online shopping is that you can't hold or test the product before buying. "To get the best feel of what you are buying, read the description of the product thoroughly, check the size and compare it with the size chart provided by the website. Read what their return policy says," shares Harsheen K Arora, director - strategy and operations, The V Renaissance.

If you are uncomfortable sharing your credit or debit card details for online payment, another safe option is COD i.e. Cash On Delivery. It means you have to pay only once your items have been delivered to your doorstep.

Avoid shopping at a cyber cafe or in public places as you are at a risk of letting people see your personal details. If you do, ensure that the PC or website doesn't auto save your card's information.

Print or save a copy of your order, until you receive your product.

Usually, you will receive an email with a confirmation of your purchase; this page should include a purchase receipt and a confirmation number.

Balance feasting with fasting this Diwali

Written By Unknown on Kamis, 23 Oktober 2014 | 18.48

Diwali is the time when families come together to celebrate. And no celebration is complete without sweets and fried farsan. It is advisable not to indulge in tonnes of sugar-loaded mithais. Make a wise choice. Look for healthy options this year. Also, the food cooked during this festival is high in calories, so opt for dishes that aren't loaded with ghee or oil.

PREPARE HEALTHIER SWEETS
Sweets are hard to resist especially during Diwali when there are plenty on offer. But if you are conscious and don't want to pile on kilos, you can opt for healthy options. "Make the sweets at home. By doing this, you will get to know what is going into them. Opt for jaggery or honey instead of white sugar and oil instead of ghee. You can even make your own sweets using olive oil. Try not to use ghee or butter as saturated fat can lead to heart problems," says Sumona Ganguly, a nutritionist.

Using skimmed milk instead of full cream milk is a wise option. You could also opt for soya milk or cow's milk instead of the high fat buffalo milk. Soya milk is wholesome because it is high in protein and fibre and low in calories. Make healthy sweets at home by using dry fruits like dates, almonds, raisins, figs and walnuts. Do not use too many cashews and peanuts in your sweets as they are rich in calories.

GIFT THOUGHTFULLY
"If you love your family and friends, do not gift them chocolates and high calorie sweets. Instead, gift dry fruit and fresh fruit baskets. Buy an air frier, oven or tandoor this Diwali and learn how to roast, bake or air fry cutlets, pattice, potato chips or spring rolls instead of deep frying them," says nutritionist Sheela Tanna.

If you plan to present shrikhand to your friends, then make it at home. "Get the whole family together for the preparations. Use fat-free milk, dry fruits, and fresh fruits instead of lots of refined sugar or khoya to cut down on calories. You can't entertain guests during Diwali without offering them a platter of shev, chaklis, poha chivda, which are unfortunately fried. However, a healthy way out is to bake them. Instead of artificially sweetened cold drinks, opt for coconut water, fresh lime juice or buttermilk," adds Tanna.

HEALTHY TWIST TO DISHES
Diwali is that time of the year when you have the opportunity to indulge in good food. However, good food does not necessarily mean dishes rich in cream, ghee and cheese. Opt for almond paste which is a lot healthier and will give your Diwali dishes the perfect thick texture.

It is that time of the year when the weather is perfect for hot butter-laden parathas. For a twist, make stuffed parathas with a dash of olive oil or replace them with rotis made of whole wheat. When you are making pulao rice, add a lot of vegetables and dry fruits and cook it in very little olive oil instead of ghee or butter. Make the paneer at home in low-fat milk. Don't fry the paneer, grill it with special Indian spices like chilli, nutmeg, coriander powder and lemon juice with a little grated ginger and garlic paste. Why deep fry small eats and starters — which are served with drinks — when you can grill or bake them? Brush them with a little olive oil before putting them on the grill.

For people who eat meat during Diwali, it is time to opt for healthy low cal meat preparations. Use lean meat without the fat and lard, and cook it in olive oil. Add spinach and tomato paste to your mutton curry. You could also marinate the meat in lots of curd so that it becomes tender and you don't need to cook it for too long.

TIPS FOR A HEALTHY DIWALI
- If you are keen on sweets, then cut down on the namkeens.
- Avoid feasting at dinner time.
- Make sure that you are drinking enough water because people forget to drink water when they are busy with all the celebrations around.
- Try to eat as much fruit and vegetables before and after Diwali. This should work as a kind of a detox.

Fashion Designer Oscar de la Renta dead
