A quick beauty guide for this season

Looking gorgeous was never this important. Even those who don't care much about looking good on a regular day, would want to look their best during the festivals. With clothes and accessories in place, here is what you will need to do to amp up your beauty quotient for the upcoming celebrations.

Tuck me right: It is the era of cosmetic surgeries and treatments, wherein painless weight loss and glowing skin in an instant are preferred. With festivals being such a huge affair, people consider surgeries an investment.

Says cosmetic surgeon Shyamal Munshi, "This time of the year witnesses an increase in men and women going in for various beauty regimes. Chemical peels which remove the top layer of the skin in controlled way, taking off the dead skin and any light scars and spots are what youngsters are going for." And while youngsters ask for glowing skin, there are many who go in for small procedures like Botox and anti-aging treatments to hide the fine lines, so that their faces are in sync with the festive energy. Apart from instantaneous treatments like these, there are also those who have been planning for months. Munshi adds, "We do have patients asking for mild liposuction and tummy tucks at least five months before the festival." If this wasn't enough, laser hair removals and temporary lip enhancement are also hits with youngsters.

A hairy affair: Earlier, wearing the dupatta over the head with a maang tikaa was a trend, but now, it is in vogue to have those tresses falling nicely over your back and shoulders. Youngsters have gone pretty experimental when it comes to hair, by going in for different, bold haircuts and even colours.

Says beautician Ratna Motiyani, "People like wearing their hair loose and get fancy cuts specially during this time. Since you will be all out to see pandals and visit various garba and dandiya competitions, you are bound to sweat too. So we have a lot of customers asking for hair spas and hair rejuvenation to strengthen and protect hair." While braids have always been favoured hairstyles during the festivities, this year they too have gotten a makeover!

Says hairstylist Tarun Manthan, "Not just girls even guys who have slightly long hair are going for those small braids woven with beads and threads. It looks very cool on guys who can carry it off nicely." And the buck doesn't stop there, Munshi says, "A lot of men come to us for treatments to regrow hair and hide bald spots."

Skin-tastic: While facials and clean-ups are a regular affair, this year, more and more people are opting for advanced treatments such as back and even full body polishing, a procedure that removes dead skin though massage and exfoliation and gives the skin a supple glow. These treatments lasts for almost two weeks. Says Anuja Vyas, a college student, "I have heard a lot about body polishing. Normally, I go in for a facial before the festive season begins, but this year I plan to do something different. Since I go to college daily, I want a pampering treatment."

Apart from these beauty treatments, temporary tattoos are also very popular. Says entrepreneur Shaili Dave, "The colourful sparkly tattoos look tacky, so I am getting a mehndi design tattoo on my back and arms in subtle tones. They don't stay for a very long time and are also safe on the skin."

So, for those who haven't booked their beauty session at the salon yet, here's what you can go in for.

Shine on...

Hair: Hair spas protect hair from sweat and pollution

Skin: Cleanse and exfoliate skin to make sure that you look radiant the next day

Body: Scar lightening and body polishing procedures give you that flawless, fresh skin

Unwanted hair: People prefer going for permanent hair removal with laser treatments

Waist and back: Scrubbing and massage ensure a great looking waist and back to look great in your sexy cholis

Accesorize: Small braids woven with beads look great and colourful, as do bright hair extensions

Smoothen skin: Coat your face with a paste of almonds and papaya. Gently scrub and wash off

Cosmetic surgeries: Chemical peels, Botox and other anti-aging treatments are preferred during this time
