Poonam Uppal's latest offering is a fresh take on Vatsyana's Kama Sutra that popular perception treats as a 'sex manual'. Poonam's book is a sincere attempt to examine and demystify skewed notions attached to one of the primary works available on human sexuality.
Holy Kama Sutra
One of the prominent aspects the author deals with is the 'holiness' of the Kama Sutra. Ask her to elaborate on the divine revelations and she says, "Holy Kama Sutra is the ultimate, final mathematical Droodle- "Union of twin souls, split halves, true lovers and also a perfect solution for the modern menace called 'Divorce-Breakup-Heartache'. Each soul must find and unite with its twin soul. Every soul on this earth has a spiritual twin soul that is their exact polar opposite. No matter how far your twin soul is, if your yearning is fierce and sincere at the dawn of the Aquarius age, the powerful magnetic pull of split halves will bring you face to face with your 'True Lover'. Union of these souls is the ultimate 'Holy Kama Sutra'."
Kama Sutra as holistic science
Being part of a conservative Punjabi family, Poonam was never apprehensive about dreaming big. As a successful fashion designer, she found her true calling in writing. Becoming a writer paved a way for her to go back to her childhood years which were spent amid adversities. Her journey led to a gradual emancipation of her character, both in the book and in reality. The story of Moh Lal Rai in 'A Passionaate Gospel of True Love' draws inspiration from significant chapters of the author's life. With an aspiration to become the next big sensation in the fashion world as an internationally acclaimed designer, Moh is guided by a divine force that leads her on a tour . This sets off the search for her 'true lover'. Much like the author, who is a staunch believer in the power of Ma Durga, Moh in this book is commanded by a goddess to turn into a Love Messiah to unravel the deep secrets of 'Love', 'Passion', 'Romance', 'Life' and 'Death'. "This book is a true love story of mine and my journey 'From designer to divine'. I have changed names and places to safeguard the interest of my near and dear ones," explains Poonam.
No more a land of goddesses
The aim of this book is not to delve into areas of sexuality or positions of love-making; the purpose is to achieve a spiritual experience of love. Erotica is not what Poonam would like to categorise this book under, "My book is a mystical true love story of two divine lovers who were pulled apart by an evil curse of a soul and now the divine lovers have taken birth in this modern age. One of the lovers, Moh Lal Rai, accidentally unravels the lost, esoteric, cryptic writing of 'Ancient Art of True Love and Holy Kama Sutra'. Sex is the holiest act in this black age. In this Kalyug, sex act alone could become the means to salvation and the ritual of love making alone could reach true lovers and twin souls to attain the ultimate state of Nirvana," asserts Poonam.
Apart from exploring the "lost, ancient, esoteric, occult scripture of Kama Shastra," as Poonam describes it, she also investigates into the many truths of 'sacred love'. Also, readers get a chance to comprehend the complexities of 'Tantric Sex' discussed in great detail in the book. Ask her about the status of women in India and the rising cases of sexual violence, she explains, "Violence against women is a gift of this new age. Today, neither a woman worships a man nor does a man worship a woman. This is the reason why once again it is time for 'Bharat' to slow down and bring our ancient morals and values, say no to premarital sex and search for our twin souls, so that we can make our nation divine and use the slogan 'Shining India' with pride."
Future projects
Currently, Poonam Uppal is compiling her collection of old poems in a book titled, 'Under the green parasol of Kadamb'. She is also working on her next book, 'What Ever It Takes' along with 'How to find your Twin Soul' which can serve as a handbook for true lovers.
