Earlier this year, i-genius Young Authors Hunt was launched, which saw the participation of over 55,000 children from across the nation. After an introduction to writers Ruskin Bond and Chetan Bhagat, children from Parikrama Humanity Foundation performed a play.
The book unveiled by the jury, consisting of Ruskin Bond and Chetan Bhagat among others, featured the top 50 shortlisted stories chosen by them. A Braille version of the book, for the visually challenged, was also released at the event. An e-book version of the same was also released. The programme was launched to search for the best young writers in India. The initiative saw participation from over 500 cities. The final 50 stories that appear in the book have been selected after a three-round long process.
Rajesh Sud, CEO and managing director, Max Life Insurance, said, "We feel privileged to be part of this journey to identify promising young writers. We're overwhelmed by the remarkable display of potential reflected in the thousands of stories that reached us." He further added, "We've also launched a Braille version of this book to share the joy of reading with the visually impaired. We hope that these stories written by their peers will spark their own imaginations." Anisha Motwani, director and chief marketing officer, Max Life Insurance, was also present at the event.For both Bond and Bhagat, it was an extremely difficult task to shortlist the 50 stories that have made it to the book, they said.
The Grand First Prize for 50 writers' creative writing was their stories published in the book. The 50 second prize winners, whose stories have been also won the Young Authors' Scholarship worth 5,000 each. There were also 400 consolation prize winners.
