Makeup when applied right, can make you look like a glamorous diva in a matter of hours, but if it goes wrong, it could age you by years, exaggerate your flaws and fine lines and make you hate the mirror. Here are some tips...
Minimise pores
Begin by using a primer on your freshly scrubbed, cleansed face. This minimises pores and evens out the skin.
Contour your face
Use foundations in three shades for contouring — light shades to highlight, medium on the apples of your cheeks and darker tones to add depth (see pic). Use a makeup brush to blend it all thoroughly.
Conceal blemishes
Use a concealer closest to your skin tone. Dot over marks and blemishes and pat gently to blend the edges.
Perfect your brows
If your eyebrows are scant, use one light and one dark brown pencil and fill in with very soft strokes.
Open up your eyes
Use a light brown eyeshadow on your lids. Keep it thin under your lower lashes. Avoid the kajal and eyeliner completely. Curl the lashes using an eyelash curler and sweep in a stroke of mascara lightly over your top lashes. Let it dry thoroughly — otherwise they will look unnatural — before you go in for another coat. Sweep a stroke of light highlighter on your brow bone.
Get a glow
Use a peach blush from mid-ear to the apples of your cheeks. Follow this with a highlighter on the cheeks above the bone for a natural glow.
For a pretty pout
Apply a tinted, non-glossy lip balm. If you want a little colour, opt for corals, pinks or nudes.
Points to keep in mind
- While applying makeup, take a little on your index finger and dot it all over your face. To blend, use fingers and pat it gently.
- Using professional makeup brushes can give a flawless finish. Practice to get it right.
- Don't use a lot of colour. Keep to the nudes for wheatish, browns for dark and peaches for fair skin tones.
- Finish your eye makeup before doing your cheeks. This will prevent eyeshadow spills and mascara marks on your face.
