"Bandhgala suits are quite popular these days; they come in fabrics like art silk, brocade, etc. If a suit seems heavy; a Nehru or high neck jacket would go very well with a simple shirt or kurta," saysPrabhat Khona, owner of a designer store.
Kurtas are a rage among Bengali men, especially during Durga Puja, as they help bring in the festive spirit. Fabric painted kurtas are some of the most popular picks for Puja as they come in vibrant colours like yellow, orange, white, olive, etc. Mithu, who also has a good collection of kurtas for men says, "Kurtas are integral to Bengalis. Men usually flaunt dhoti-kurtas during Sharadutsav as they do not get to wear such clothes throughout the year. In addition to fabric painted kurtas, there are the ones with motifs. They are innovatively designed with motifs like the face of maa Durga, chandmala, the pious kalash, or Warli or Jamini Roy paintings." Most of these kurtas come in cotton, however, there are some special ones in tussar or pure silk, accessorised with kantha stitch or embroidery work.
Look dapper in a Modi jacket with a bright coloured kurta or a Coati jacket on a simple linen or khadi shirt and you are all set for that cultural evening.
