Restaurant review: Toss Sports Lounge

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 10 September 2014 | 18.47

The old bar in the ZK's complex situated on the second floor on the main Lulla Nagar road has recently metamorphorsised into a trendy sports bar called Toss.

Given Zaheer Khan's involvement, I suppose this is an obvious move and I don't know what took them so long to decide. The place sells IPL memorabilia and has a gaming console. There are two sections, one slightly brighter than the other and apart from a comprehensive bar menu, they also serve a full snack and dinner menu, which runs all day long from noon to midnight.

Food
I actually find that nothing pairs better with beer than grilled and barbecued food. The Indian tandoori items here are excellent. Even if it is just paneer and chicken tikka, these dishes are executed exceptionally well with a perfect amount of spice and not overcooked. However, the chef informs me that it is the Western dishes that customers demand and so he has created a humble selection of finger foods — fried potatoes (French fries, wedges and roesti c/o McCain), house made fried onion rings and bean and olive bruschetta. So far so good. The Caesar salad has cherry tomatoes and diced capsicum in addition to a classic Caesar dressing, Romaine lettuce and croutons and the hummus could do with a little bit of perking up (just salt and lime juice would be enough). Again the chicken nacho platter, is a little 'Indianised' with a salsa that has more than its fair share of 'spring', chicken kheema and the bell peppers are back again. Ditto with the spaghetti Bolognese where the spaghetti is cut up into bite sized pieces with mutton kheema. Miles away from Italy but actually quite tasty. The desserts are spot on — a perfectly sizzling brownie, which is flambeed with brandy at the table and a tiramisu where the soaked sponge comes in the middle and the mascarpone cream, honestly, as good as it gets. Service is very amiable. Portions are huge and can be shared. For those who live in the Lulla Nagar area, this could be quite a God send away from the normal beer bars and multi cuisine restaurants.

Plus and Minus
Fantastic location, should increase the finger food menu.
