What’s your dad like?

Written By Unknown on Selasa, 17 Juni 2014 | 18.47

Daddies can be an eclectic bunch — from the disciplinarian to the buddy type.

Whatever be their category, they're your first heroes. This Father's Day, find out more about your father type, by taking him off-guard with just one line — 'Dad I think I like her/him!', and his reaction will help you decipher the category he fits in.

Meet the buddy daddy
The dads in this category are the best guides. They play catalysts to your dreams. If you want to participate in a competition, they will be ready to give you 'how to nail it' tips. Full of motivational energy and morale boosters for every legit aspiration of yours, you'd remain a douche without their support.

How to indulge him : They would love it if you fetch them something you've earned with sweat and blood. No matter what, it could be something as meagre as a card or a perfume, but he's the kind to take pride in everything you do for him.

Meet the overachiever
Needless to add, this type of dad is stricter than your strictest teacher at school. They want you to become an IAS officer or clear that CAT examination with a staggering score or clear the entrance of that college with a ridiculous 98% cut off. They also want to have 99% say in your life (read — love life). Mind you, when you do comply, they will have the most expensive speakers and the latest tablet at your disposal. They want to see their child on top so they can boast about him to Mr. Sharma, whose son cleared IIT last year.

How to indulge him : Even though you can't just do enough for this category of dads, but for once, if you could take him out for lunch and have an intellectual political/career related discussion with him, it might
just make his day. Reassure him that you want to fulfill his wishes, but to give you time to develop your own perspective first.

Meet the senti daddy
They kiss you in public, they fight with your mom if she slaps you, and they ring you up 17 times if you miss their first two calls while on an outing with friends. Verdict — they can't live without you. They never forget to get a chocolate or that leather ball while returning home. At times, you have to remind him that you are grown-up enough to travel alone.

How to indulge him: These dads are easy to please. You give him a hand-written note and he'll keep it for posterity to show it to your kids. The best would be to just spend time with him. Hug him, kiss him or gift him something that he's not been able to buy and he'll melt with all your love and attention.

Meet the funster dad
These dads are the sons of their sons. Young at heart, fun-seekers and probably more excited about PS4 launching than you are. They perk you up like no one else when you're low and there won't be a moment of boredom in the house. They're the life of the house, but you'll also be grounding them on high cholesterol and bad liver every third day. Secretly, they love being fathered by you!

How to indulge him: Go out bowling with him! Or take him to that restaurant where he can pig out on all his favourite dishes and drinks. Take him for a movie, or just a long drive listening to his hilarious childhood tales and goof-ups. He won't be able to ask for more, with his son spoiling him for a day or two.

Meet the sanskaari dad
Then, there are the sanskaari dads. They perpetually have problem with your spaghetti tops, low waist jeans, English music, your usage of 'chill' everytime he corrects you for something and your phone buried face. But he also loves it when you accompany him to Sushma aunty's husband's maternal brother's youngest daughter's wedding. He keeps telling you the importance of family bonds every now them at the dinner table. He just wants his kids to be social and courteous creatures.

How to indulge him: You already know, visit your bua along with him and don't forget to stop at the temple on the way. For once, wear that shrinking salwar kameez/shirt-trousers of yours and talk to him about what a fabulous family you have. For that alone, he'll write his will in your name.

FATHERHOOD FINDINGS
A new international study had identified four types of father — the Enforcer Dad (he is the disciplinarian), the Entertainer Dad (the life of a party), Useful Dad (who helps with the day-to-day chores) and Fully Involved Dads (hands-on about everything related to the house and family). Out of the 64 couples surveyed for the study on fatherhood, most fell in the middle two categories. However, there were many who were convinced that that there were categories than just these four.
