Zespri kiwifruit has over 30 nutrients. "It is a superfruit with lots of anti-oxidants and vitamins," says Ritesh Bhimani, Market Manager, India, Zespri International Limited. Here are some benefits...

Healthy fruit for diabetics
Kiwifruit's high fibre content and low glycaemic index (48.5) provide better glycaemic regulation, making it a good choice for diabetic patients, since it prevents the rapid rise of blood sugar levels. It is also a healthy alternative to high-fat, high-sugar snacks, thereby assisting weight loss for those with Type 2 diabetes.

Reduces cardiovascular disease
A study reveals that consuming two to three Kiwifruit per day helps blood thinning, reduces blood clotting and lowers fat content in the blood, thereby maintaining cardiovascular health.

Benefits pregnant women
Pregnant women need 400 to 800 micrograms of folic acid for healthy development of the foetus in early pregnancy. It is a good source of folate, which helps brain and cognitive development and prevents neural defects in babies (before and during pregnancy). Folate produces and repairs DNA, and aids in rapid cell division and growth.

Promotes healthy skin
It has more potassium than a banana, more Vitamin C than an orange and is rich in vitamin E and Alfa Linoleic Acid, an essential fatty acid. These are imperative vitamins and minerals for skin care.

Boosts immunity
The rich Vitamin C and antioxidant content help boost immunity and keep cold and flu away.

Improves digestive health and prevents bloating
Green Kiwifruit contains Actinidin (a natural enzyme that breaks down protein), fibre (improves bowel habits, cleanses the digestive system) and vitamin C (eliminates bloating after a protein-rich meal and facilitates growth of beneficial bacteria).

Protects against asthma
Kiwifruit protects children from respiratory symptoms associated with asthma, such as wheezing and coughing, by improving lung function.

Increases uptake of iron
Growing children with reduced iron intake can suffer from anaemia. Kiwifruit helps the body better absorb iron for more vitality, which improves productivity, cognitive behaviour and reduces lethargy.
