Australia is a fine country with amazing outdoors. The beaches offer the ultimate opportunity for relaxation. You'd want to spend hours in the golden sands. It's the perfect place for a perfect holiday!
My recent trip to Australia was a family affair. My sister is based there. And since it had been a long time since we holidayed together, it was great fun. I got to spend some quality time with my parents and sister's family while soaking in the Australian summer. It had a different charm altogether.
In and around Australia
I have been to Australia a couple of times before, and have visited the Gold Coast, Sydney, Perth and Adelaide. This was my first trip to Melbourne. In Melbourne, I didn't do much of the regular tourist stuff and went wherever my sister took me. However, we did visit a number of pubs, restaurants and malls.
Shoppers' paradise
Australia is definitely a shopper's paradise in terms of everything — clothes, bags, shoes and accessories. The malls there are huge and one can get almost anything and everything, including the latest brands, under one roof... The shopping locations are as varied as the choice of items. In this city you get everything from simple souvenirs and gifts to fine arts and crafts, fabulous gemstones and jewellery, bush-style clothing and designer labels, all with an unmistakable Australian flavour.
Scintillating night-life
I loved the Irish pubs in the city. There was a special one where we would hang out almost every weekend. But my best eating experiences were at my sister's home as my brother-in-law is a gourmet cook. He would make the most delicious dishes and we all would enjoy a hearty meal every once in a while.
The Great Ocean Road
This is a stunning stretch a little away from Melbourne. The road is flanked by the sea on one side and the jungles on the other. The trees must be around 1,000 years old and you can spot really cute koala bears everywhere. The Twelve Apostles is another fantastic sight. We had small en route picnics, ate in really charming restaurants and went swimming on clean secluded beaches that are unique to the Great Ocean Road. I strongly recommend this place to anyone who visits Australia.
Yarra Valley Trip
We also went for a trip to the Yarra Valley, a wine-making region an hour and a half from Melbourne. It is a very scenic area with charming cottages, hotels and restaurants. We did a lot of wine tasting and gorged on great food. Swimming, fishing and hiking in the valley was an incredible experience. I especially loved the picturesque view there.
The best part of this holiday was bonding with my sister for a good one month after ages. My parents also had a great time. This is one trip which will definitely live in my memory for a long time.
