According to the survey conducted by EduMedia, India, as many as 72 per cent of Indian children prefer wearing western outfits as opposed to Indian ones. The survey, conducted across eight cities in India, also dwells into the reasons for this preference among children between the age group of eight and 14.
While one would assume peer pressure to top the list of reasons, the result throws in a surprise as it is apparently how they look in it makes one opt to be seen in western wear.
As many as 38 per cent of the number of adolescents opting for western wear do so because they feel western outfits look good on them. At 34 per cent, an almost equal number voted for the fact that western outfits were cool. Comfort comes in next with 22 per cent kids voting for the same as their reason.
Interestingly, only four per cent said they wear western clothes because their friends wear it - therefore zeroing down peer pressure to almost negligent. And with just 2 per cent admitting to opting for western wear because celebrities wear it, reports that suggest celebs and their lifestyle influencing children may not hold good for kids in India in this aspect.
The survey suggests that children below 14, in India, continue to be oblivious to fashion updates on what's in and what's out; at least, not yet.
