It's time for the cuticle tattoo!

Sun, stars, half moon -you've literally had the world on your fingertips since nail art became a fashion necessity. But it's time you moved away from the cliched animal, floral and geeky prints. This summer, extend your hand for cuticle tattoos!

Edgy and attractive, these temporary tats are ideal for girls who might be hesitant to go for something permanent, but are tired of doneto-death nail art patterns.These tattoos come in various shapes and designs and can be used to adorn cuticles as well as nails.

Remember the stick-and-peel bubblegum tattoos? Well, cuticle tattoos are applied using the same technique - yes, you can easily DIY at home! Trim the tattoos as per the shape of your cuticles. Peel off the plastic and apply the tat, paper side up. Dab some water with a sponge and press on it to transfer the art. You can also invert the tattoos and apply it on your nails for a dramatic effect. Says Priyancka Surana, who has introduced cuticle tattoos in her parlour, "When it comes to manicure, cuticles tend to be a problem because even if the nails look fab, the cuticles might be wrinkled. These tats are the best bet for such hands." Cuticle tattoos are priced `500 per set. Nail expert Bidisha Das adds, "Cuticle tattoos are actually an extension of nail art.

Youngsters prefer them as the designs are temporary and easy to apply . Yes, it's DIY, but one needs to be careful about the placement. Once applied, the cuticle tats will stay for two to three days."

How to get it right:

1. If you're wearing pastel shades on your nails, apply the tattoo on a single cuticle (preferably ring finger) to make a chic statement.
2. In case you are in the mood for some adventure, apply a striking nail colour and deck all your cuticles with diverse tats.
3. For a clean, summery look, opt for a classy shade of polish and put the same cuticle tattoo on each finger.
4. You can decorate an already intricate nail design with cuticle tattoos.
5. Use a single colour on four fingers and sparkly polish on a single finger. Apply a cuticle tattoo below that sparkly nail to make a fashion statement.
