Trying to look sick is the latest makeup fad

Holed up at home because you can't face friends after a bad cold left your eyes red? This sickly look is actually being sought after by Japanese women, especially in Tokyo city.
After face shaving and the 'beauty voice trainer', trust these folks to come up with another crazy notion of beauty. They are calling it 'me no shita chiiku' (translates as undereye blush). So, the idea is to deliberately apply makeup to give the illusion of red-rimmed eyes, painting blush very high on the cheekbones to look like you've got fever, and using 'undereye shadow' for dark circles or eyebags. Making yourself look sick on purpose isn't exactly Asian. Remember the heroin-chic look that supermodel Kate Moss popularised in the 1990s?
Colouring outside the lines may be a sin in beauty bibles, but in Japan, it's high fashion. Rosy undereyes have been popping up on the runway in Paris since last year. The look has now exploded into the mainstream. Undereye blush can verge on making the wearer seem a touch under the weather. For some of its fans, this is part of the appeal, a niche trend known as 'byojaku' (meaning sickly) that has spread through magazines and beauty blogs in the last year. It is characterised by pale skin, puffy undereye bags. There are even online tutorials for getting the no-sleep look. Will women in the city also be sporting enough to follow this fad?

Bizarre beauty trends that originated in Japan

The F Cup Cookie Available in chocolate, strawberry and soya milk flavours, this cookie claims to boost the bustline in three to five weeks!

Pupeko Resembling a giant cookie cutter, the Pupeko supposedly tightens cheek and jaw muscles.

Non-surgical nose jobs From psychedelic insects to a nose vibrator that claims to straighten or narrow one's nose, there are plenty of non-surgical options for rhinoplasty in Japan.

Uniface Mask Created from bionic-skin technology, this mask lets women talk, smile, even sleep while wearing it.
