With the temperatures dropping, your body and hair needs heavy moisturisation.

Dark chocolates which are used for beauty treatments contain more than 80% of cocoa butter to smoothen your skin. Know more about how it heals.

Coupled with natural ingredients, emollient properties and pleasant fragrance, chocolate is being widely used in salons to treat various skin and hair problems common during this season.

Skin Chocolate treatment for the skin can be further divided into facial and body. There are a variety of popular chocolate facials that you can choose from during this season.

Facials Classic chocolate facial This facial is done using raw cocoa powder and dark chocolate. The dark chocolate is melted and the cocoa powder is added to the mixture. The face is first cleansed using a chocolate-based face cleanser and then scrubbed with a chocolate-based scrub and massage with a chocolate cream. Post that, the chocolate paste is applied onto the face and one has to keep it for approximately 20 minutes, before it is washed off with lukewarm water.

Chocolate and coconut facial Both chocolate and coconut have healing properties and reduces the dryness in your skin which is prevalent during this season. Chocolate when combined with coconut oil or cream has a certain amount of hydrating properties which alleviates drying of the skin, fine lines and wrinkles. Chocolate moisturises the skin and coconut clears the skin of blemishes, acne marks and dry patches.

Chocolate and strawberry facial A seasonal facial uplifts your skin and makes it look clearer. Strawberries help fight free radicals and restore your skin's suppleness. Make a thick paste using dark chocolate and strawberries, after you've cleansed your skin. Keep it on for a while and then wash it off with lukewarm water.

Body therapies Body wraps and spas are a popular treatment which is advised during this season. This is because it keeps your body nourished and rids your skin off dryness. Here are a few popular body therapies that are advised for you this winter —

Hot chocolate wrap A hydrating hot chocolate wrap is the best way for your skin to retain its moisture. It helps to eliminate impurities from your skin and increases blood circulation. Other than this, dark chocolates help release endorphins into your system, which acts as an analgesic for your body.

Chocolate body polish There are various body polishes that scrub your body off impurities. However, a chocolate body polish other than eliminating impurities nourishes your body and eradicates free radicals. It makes your skin healthy, glowing and soft. You can combine this with either an almond or a walnut pack to soften your skin.

A chocolate body massage Chocolate body massage is a great way to achieve a firm and smooth skin. It stimulates the blood flow in your body, thereby reducing cellulite. A body massage done with dark chocolate has more antioxidant properties. When going in for a chocolate body massage, make sure that the salon uses 35% of pure cocoa so that the massage revitalises your skin and gives it a plumper and firmer feel. It is also a great way to treat dryness of the skin, along with reducing stretch marks and blemishes.

Hair Chocolate or cocoa is said to be rich in magnesium which helps fight and cure hair loss. Cocoa nourishes and hydrates your hair and makes it thicker and smoother. If you have dandruff or any other scalp problems, chocolate is also said to treat the same.

Chocolate oil mask A chocolate clay mask is a great way to add shine to your hair. You can mix cocoa powder along with coconut or almond oil and apply this evenly all over your hair. Keep the mask on for at least an hour before you wash it off with lukewarm water. Do not use very hot or cold water. You can condition your hair post the treatment but do not shampoo your hair immediately. For results to show, shampoo your hair at least one day after you've done the treatment.

Chocolate hair wash To make your own chocolate hair wash, dilute dark chocolate with a hydrating shampoo which is suitable for the winter. Wash your hair once in every week to soften your hair and also make it smooth and healthy. But make sure that the proportion of the diluted chocolate and the shampoo is the same.

Chocolate hair massage A chocolate hair massage is a great way to nourish your scalp. If you are suffering from any scalp-related issues — dryness of the scalp, dandruff, itchy scalp — this massage is a great way to rejuvenate your hair and make it glowing and soft. A chocolate hair massage also adds volume to your hair and increases hair buoyancy.

Other must-haves you need to stock up on for winter While chocolate is believed to be the best ingredient you can treat your skin with during this season, there are other ingredients that you can use to get a smooth and glowing skin.

Red wine Due to its high content in antioxidants, red wine nourishes your skin and makes it super soft. If you are suffering from seasonal skin problems like winter acne, pigmentation or dry and flaky skin, red wine can cure that too. Other than this, it can also be used on the hair as a conditioner. After you've shampooed your hair, take a glass of red wine and pour it over your mane. Keep it on for a while and then wash it off under tap water. It tackles hair loss and also increases hair volume.

Green tea Another ingredient that clears your skin off blemishes and dryness is green tea. Other than ensuring that your skin stays soft and smooth, green tea also reduces puffiness around the eyes and reduces eye bags as well. It clears your skin off impurities and makes it smooth and clears your complexion as well. Green tea can also be used to add volume to your hair. Strain a few green tea leaves and pour the mixture on your hair. Let it dry up and shampoo your hair the next day.

Aloe vera Another popular ingredient that can be used on the skin during this season is aloe vera. Aloe Vera is often associated with summers, however, during winters; Aloe vera helps cure dryness on the face. It also reduces fine lines and wrinkles on the face and clears pigmentation marks from the face as well.
