With the temperature dipping by a few degrees everyday, Mumbai inhabitants are feeling the slight nip in the air. This season is about sunny picnics, glorious outdoor treks and fun get-togethers with friends, but unfortunately, it is also about dry, dehydrated skin.
It is a condition where the skin has very limited moisture or suffers from a lack of moisture in its intracellular system. We spoke to cosmetologists Dr Jaishree Manchanda, Dr Jamuna Pai and Dr Rashmi Shetty to find out more and ways to deal with dehydrated skin.
Skin dehydration can happen due to several different reasons, and one of the most common one is environmental factors, including heating and air conditioning at home or work. The dry feeling could also be due to a lack of optimum nutrients including vitamins and minerals. So, amp up your intake of fruit and vegetables by a few notches, for internal nourishment, and topically, begin taking care of your skin thoroughly. Using a cream-based cleanser is essential if you don't want to rip off the moisture remnants from your dehydrated skin. Always use a toner that is free of alcohol and opt for a nourishing moisturiser. This increases the water content of the outer layers of the skin and gives it a soft, moist look. Sticking to gentle cleansing and regular moisturising, is the best bet.
