Give in to your food cravings

Stop feeling guilty and counting calories everytime you see a sinfully delicious brownie or a creamy ice-cream. Break the food rules smartly

Tired of your soup, salad, boiled veggie, fruits and grilled chicken diet? A diet that has no room for sweets, desserts, pizzas, pastas and all your favourite dishes? It's not easy to control your food cravings, but if you are the sort who's counting the calorie content everytime you eat then you are on the right path, albeit difficult. However you can try some smart modifications to suit you. If you have followed a diet for a fortnight, you are allowed to break that routine with a chicken roll, burger or cutlet. Okay these are not really healthy food, but stop feeling guilty for indulging yourself.

Your meals can be very satisfying if you are counting calories at the end of it right?

You can eat a piece of chocolate or a helping of ice-cream during lunch. Don't over indulge. Keep your portions small so that you don't add too many calories even when you are sinning! A sweet or some ice-cream once in 10 days is acceptable. Even your dietician won't reprimand you if you let yourself go once in a while. Just don't go over the top during your indulgence.

Walk briskly or jog twice a day for half an hour. A daily exercise routine is a must to keep you in shape. Even if you diet right, some physical exercise is a must.

If you are the kind who feels guilty after eating a plate of sev puri or panipuri or spend sleepless night after a dinner at a wedding/party/anniversary then don't get too stressed out. Even if you eat chocolate, sweets, cheesecake or rich biryani, don't feel too guilty about it. If your portions are decent then you are not in great danger. A dryfuit ladoo made with desi ghee might be high on calories but has lots of benefits. Have a ladoo with breakfast once in 14 days. Don't eat it like a dessert after dinner/lunch. Our bodies are incapable of processing too much food at one go and if you eat the ladoo as dessert then the calories will settle in your stomach as fat and the nutrients won't be useful to us.

Cheese, peanuts, paneer, banana, rice and potatos are not basically fattening. They are high on calories but give you energy. Eat them in moderation. In your haste to count calories don't ignore the nutrients in the food you are avoiding. Have a mix of protein, carbohydrate and fat in your food. A thin body is not necessarily a beautiful one. Don't deprive yourself of your favourite food and feel unhappy at the sacrifice. Eat smart, eat right.
