Pets are simply the best thing that can happen to you, be it a dog, cat or even a bird. But you also need to ensure your family's hygiene when you bring one home. Here's how:
Pet poop: Until they are trained, pets will pee and poop everywhere - in the bedroom, balcony, lounge - you name it and your pet would have marked its territory there. So for the next 2-3 months, be prepared to clean it all up. You can either try the poop pickers which are easily available at pet stores. They are basically plastic shovels attached to long sticks so you don't have to go near it.
However, if you don't have one on hand, use lots of waste paper and cardboard to pick it up. Wipe the area with a wet cloth, pour some antiseptic over it and wipe again. This will ensure that the bacteria don't spread all around.
Pet puke: If your pet in unwell, take it to a doctor first thing. Try keeping it outdoors so that it can throw up without guilt (yes, all pets feel guilty when they watch you clean up). Scrape the mess off using a hard cardboard sheet or one of those foam wipes that have a handle with it. Make sure you wear rubber gloves while doing this. Once the floor is dry, Pour half a cup of antiseptic over it and let it dry for 5-10 minutes. Wash the area with warm water afterwards.
Pet hair: Dogs and cats will definitely leave a lot of hair when they are shedding, specially furry ones. Firstly you must understand that you can't remove them all. But by using vacuum cleaners, sticky tapes and even hair dryers, you can get rid of most of them.
