Gone are days when bulking up like your favourite actor would be your dream goal. And with women too opting for men with leaner bodies, the city's young men are taking this fitness trend seriously. "Initially I'd get inquiries from young men asking me to guide them to help them build a beefed up body, but lately more men prefer the lean look," says fitness trainer Ravi Rawal.

Going 'gung-ho'
The lean body look is all about streamlining one's body. In simple words, cutting down excess fat and having a higher percentage of muscle mass. "A lean body is all about having a fit and toned body with the right amount of muscle mass and lesser amount of stored fat. Many people misunderstand slim body to be lean body. Slim body lacks stamina and has a lower percentage of fats and muscles, whereas a lean body has higher stamina, the right amount of muscles and lowest amount of fat. One can also have a six-pack-abs even though while opting for a lean body," asserts
fitness trainer and expert Abhishek Thakker.

Body basic
"When it comes to body building we instantly look up to Bollywood and
Hollywood celebrities. Of late new-age actors in West are opting for a healthier and leaner body making it a new fitness trend to reckon with.

Another reason why men are opting for a leaner and toned body is that it is easy to maintain and economically viable. One doesn't have to take any kinds of pills, injections, medicines or follow any special kind of diet. Most importantly this kind of physique is a hit with women," grins fitness trainer Ravi Rawal.

Get the look right
"A healthy balance of exercise and food is the key to a lean body. Your workout regimen should consist of a proper combination of cardio, weights and strength training. However, one should concentrate on doing more strength resistance and endurance training. Circuit training and sports training are great options. An important thing to remember while combining different exercises is that the amount of rest between two sets of exercises should be minimal, as it helps to burn calories faster, while ups your stamina and muscle power. Avoid high calorie food and opt for food with higher proteins to gain stronger muscles," says Abhishek.

Those who swear by it
"A lean body keeps you fit and gives a very athletic look, while a beefed up look doesn't suits everyone," says Prakash Malida, a fashion student. As boys warm up to the lean look, here's raising a toast to the trend.
