Restaurant Review: Little China

Written By Unknown on Senin, 11 Agustus 2014 | 18.47

No distance is too far to travel if it means good food at the destination, and that was how we made our way to check out Little China in Spectrum Mall.

The mall is a quiet place and no fights for parking space! Besides, I heard, if I billed over `350, I'd get free parking, thanks to the restaurant.

Decor
The decor is pleasant yet minimalist. But I did see interesting elements like painted terracotta dolls in alcoves adding colour to the otherwise black, white and wood surroundings, with long and comfortable sofas lining one wall.

The music was really soulful. Little China does not even attempt to be plush. Instead, it is comfortable, clean and serves unpretentious but tasty food at affordable prices.

Food
This place is known for its seafood. So, my first choice was a seafood soup. One spoon later, I was ready to let it go, as it was rather bland and was not accompanied by any of the sauces that normally come along with Chinese soups. Also, my fork was itching to dig into the crispy fried squid rings that were placed in front of me, complete with a sauce to dip them into. Next on my list were prawns in oyster sauce. Then the fried rice arrived along with mushroom salt-and-pepper and baby corn manchurian, which went well with the rice, and was steaming hot. Personally, I would have enjoyed the meal more if some of the dishes were a little less salty.

Before I could voice my opinion, the tumbler idli came along with tomato chutney and podi. This, according to me, was the best part of the meal and I could finish it in four bites. For dessert, even though we were quite full by now, we opted for some tempting gulab jamun.

Pluses and minuses
Down-to-earth prices, with normal, popular food that is served throughout the day. I'm not complaining, but the interiors could do with a better finish. The food, which is still evolving, needs some more attention.
