Restaurant Review: Fenny’s Lounge & Kitchen

European When Fenny's opened its doors last year, the name itself promised a place full of laidback Goan hospitality, and of course, Feni. And it's all here in Koramangala, with the exception of Goan food and that fiery spirit.

Decor
The decor is traditional GoanPortuguese style -a mixture of open-air and canopied spaces. "Ten green bottles hanging on the wall, and if one green bottle should accidentally fall," goes the ditty, and it comes to mind at the central island bar, which features over a thousand of them. On a Saturday night, however, it's best to avoid conversation since the music can get quite loud.

There is a lot of old furniture that is upcycled from old Goan villas, including beds, promising an evening of sussegado. A couple of transplanted heirloom trees add a lovely green effect to the alfresco section.

Food
Without doubt, their pizzas grab the spotlight. There's a wood-fired oven in a corner of the restaurant and all evening, you will be seduced by the smells of pizzas baking. The rest of the menu is a mix of the usual sizzlers, pastas and grilled delicacies. At our table, we had a Margherita Pizza, a Chicken Supreme with mushroom sauce and a Chicken Sizzler. Inexplicably, the Chicken Supreme and the Chicken Sizzler tasted suspiciously similar. The pizza was good, with liberal doses of fresh basil, but could have been better with more tomatoes. And sometimes we wonder why restaurants haven't discovered Bangalore's country tomatoes. Do try Bread Lasagna -a signature dish from the island of Sardinia.

Chilli aficionados will feel sated with the Devil Beef Chunks; our companion broke into a sweat after the first bite itself.

Citrus Marinated Prawns with orange segments were excellent and smelt fresh. The drinks menu is very comprehensive and we liked a cocktail made with two rums, pineapple, lime and cranberry juices, topped with grenadine and angostura bitters.

Service
While the service is warm and even proactive on week nights, there is a definite difficulty to cope with the crowds on weekends.

Plus and minus
A wide variety of beverages and a well-stocked bar, a pleasant open-air space and some good pizza. Perhaps you may want to time your visit for a quiet week night only.
