Cultivating a balcony or kitchen garden not only allows you get cheaper vegetables but also ensures that fresh and healthy produce is a part of your diet.

If you are planning to grow plants at your place, be it on your terrace or in your balcony, here are some easy-to-grow veggies and herbs for your garden.

Chillies: Slit open two or three green chillies and sprinkle the seeds in a pot filled with soil. Ensure that the seeds don't settle in too deep. Add a thin layer of soil on the seeds along with water. Usually, the seeds take a week to 10 days to sprout.

Turmeric: Also known as haldi, this pungent yellow spice is one of the easiest to grow at home. Turmeric requires hot and humid climate for its growth, so place it in a part of the house that receives maximum sunlight. Moreover, the pink, turmeric flowers can also add aesthetic value to your kitchen.

Mint: An extremely hassle-free herb to grow, mint or pudina is ideal for a kitchen garden. Since it requires a small space, you can repaint a tiny bucket and plant the leaves in it or even make it a bottle plant. You can also use a bigger container and plant other herbs like basil and cilantro together.

Spinach: Since spinach requires cooler weather, plant this annual crop during the winter months at home. Check with a nearby nursery on the availability of spinach seeds and sow them one-and-a-half inch deep in the soil.
