It is no secret that once every four years, football fans eat, breathe and live football, and to cater to this obsession, restaurants across the city are offering various discounts to football fans that make watching the games even more fun.

Sleep schedules of many have suddenly gone haywire in the city with the FIFA season setting in. Students, who are usually found sleeping on half-done, 'super-urgent' assignments, have started finding sleep less appealing. And those who are regularly taunted by their BFs and GFs for dozing off in the middle of a relationship-defining message thread, now wake up at the very first ring of their alarm to watch their favourite soccer players. To match up to the level of enthusiasm of these fans, shopping portals and restaurants in the city are offering special discounts on food, drinks and merchandise for the FIFA month. DT spells out this season's FIFA offers for you.

Free drinks for fans-turned-soothsayers
For many football fans, the build up to the match is more interesting than what actually happens in the match. These fans like to believe that just by virtue of their love for the sport, they can play a role in the match, and tell who would score against whom, in advance. These fans who have been brushing up on their supposed 'psychic' powers have something else to be happy about, too. Soy in Khan Market will award them with free drinks if their predictions come true. "If a guest predicts the match results correctly then he will get a set of five vodkas or five any IMFL (Indian made foreign liquor) of standard servings," says an employee at the restaurant.

Special meals for the stress-eaters
When the match hangs in balance, the appetite of many fans suddenly shoots up. To deal with the stress of the game, these fans like to keep their mouths full. For this particular variety, some restaurants in and around the city are offering discounts to make watching games into a more fun experience. Fat Lulu's, Gurgaon, has an offer under which customers who buy any 14-inch pizza, will get an 8-inch pizza free. Savannah Bar, Radisson Blu offers their version of the 'ideal football fan's food' - chilled beer and hot pizzas on A la Carte prices from 4pm to 1am all through the FIFA month. And Rrala's Habibi, Saket, is offering a live barbeque and live shawarma, pizza, and Moroccan and Lebanese cuisine during match hours'.

Brazil themed discounts
Some restaurants have decided to dedicate this FIFA season to Brazil, the host country. Johnny Rockets, which has outlets in Saket and Ambience Mall, Gurgaon, has created a combo which 'comprises of coco caramel shake, rocket wings or veggie fingers, chimichurri burger (chicken, tenderloin or grilled paneer) and American fries'. And Sattviko, Greater Kailash -II, is offering a deal under which customers can get a 'thanda Brazil drink' free on orders above `300.

Drunken deals
To suit the preferences of the non- teetotaller fans, some outlets around the city have introduced drink deals during match hours. Royal China, Nehru Place is offering buy one get one free on IMFL. Oro - The Bar at Radisson Blu Hotel, Paschim Vihar, has a 'beer madness' offer under which you get five pints of beer at the cost of `1000 for domestic beer and `2000 for imported beer (all inclusive per person) during the match hours. And Smokey's BBQ and Grill, GK-II, will have 'special happy hours' throughout the FIFA month. The Wine Company (TWC), a wine bistro located at DLF Cyber Hub, Gurgaon has an offer under which customers get '1+1 IMFL, Martini and Sangria' from 4pm to 7pm during FIFA.

Edible soccer stars
Since for most, as close as you can get to your favourite players is only the TV screen, some of restaurants let you eat and drink food and beverages named after them, just in case that helps feed the fantasy of actually meeting the stars. La Vie, in Khan Market has created a special menu with dishes named after the most popular faces in world soccer. Under this menu, Buffon is a burger and Pirlo is a cheese pizza, and Balotelli is a 'pork pepperoni over a sizzling mozzarella melt'. A comparison between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi might make their respective fans lose sanity, but on this menu, Ronaldo wins by a wide margin. While the pizza named after Ronaldo is the most expensive on this menu, costing `690, the margherita pizza named after Lionel Messi costs `400 and the Balotelli pizza costs `600.

FIFA merchandise everywhere
It is not just restaurants that are catering to football fans and their obsession with the game, many online retailers are cashing in on the football craze by offering FIFA themed merchandise and discounts. Online portals like Printvenue.com, FabFurnish and Fashionandyou have launched customized, team-specific t-shirts, mugs, laptop skins and key chains. Female fans can show-off their love for their favourite team by visiting Solester, an online shopping portal, which is offering team-based weekly discounts (targeting three teams per week) till July 14. To make it interesting, they have even introduced a national flag-based colour scheme, under which, if you buy a pair of footwear in one of the colours of your favourite team's national flag, you get a complementary pair of footwear which would be of the other colours in the flag. For instance, if you support the Italians, buy any footwear that is red in colour and you shall get one extra pair in white or green colour absolutely free.
