Schools do conduct summer camps, however, most of these camps get over by the first week of May. It is during this one month that parents are driven crazy with holiday requests and complaints. However, Navi Mumbai has a lot of interesting options when it comes to summer camps, these are not the regular activities like swimming, yoga or drawing, but are far more creative and out of the box. Here's what your kid can indulge in this summer.
Baking
Not just kids, but adults too enjoy baking sessions on and off. However, Kharghar-based Nalini Shreejeev's Baking Magic will teach you how to turn this hobby into passion this summer season. "These summer baking workshops are hands on, we initially demonstrate the technique, this is followed by the little chefs who are provided with all the materials and they create their own goodies with our help," says Nalini. They have crafted various workshops that are sure to catch the interest and creativity of the little ones. Kids are trying their hands on teddy bear and Barbie cakes with colourful icing, cookies in exciting shapes, mini pizzas and chocolate mousse, cake pops, chocolate making, cupcakes and a lot more.
Robotics
Designing robots is definitely exciting, make these summer vacations more memorable for your kids by giving your little geniuses a fun packed learning experience with a lesson in robotics. Divided in two groups i.e. I-Engineer and I-Proto, the workshop will focus on the age group of seven to nine and nine to 14 respectively. This camp will continue till June 13. Kids between the age groups of seven- nine years old are being taught basic engineering; while those older than 9 years will learn basic programming and robotics. Thereafter, they are introduced to sensors, which are added tools to design the instrument. This camp will help them build gears, levers, pulley, understand force and motion, energy, measurement, etc.
Dance
Nerul-based Happy Feet dance academy is hosting a fun summer camp for kids between the age group of four to 15 years. The summer camp starts from May 3 and will continue till June 4 at Nerul Gymkhana. Kids will be able to learn various dance forms like Bollywood, hip hop, free style, contemporary, salsa and folk. The camp is spread across weekends. This short term course will definitely act as a great learning experience for kids this summer.
Something creative
Airoli resident Kalpana Shinge has designed an interesting summer workshop for kids that do not deal with regular art and craft lessons. The camp starts on May 1 and continues till May 10. "Kids get bored with the usual drawing and dance events, this workshop teaches them skills that they do not usually learn in schools. Greeting card making, diya decoration, wall hanging, envelope making, puppet making and snowman making are some of them. Children in the age group of four to 15 years have enrolled for this workshop," says Shinge. The first session that concluded a few days back, had kids getting enthusiastic about snowman and puppet making. "The older kids make a lot of things based on their imagination, which enhances their creativity," adds Shinge.
Performing Arts
Through their unique summer camp called Fun Bags, the children's community Chirp, Chatter and Cheer has enrolled children as young as two and a half year to 12 years to experiment a new way to creativity. The camp includes theatre, comics, creative expression and puppetry. Theatre and comics is slated to have five sessions each that will teach kids skills like script writing, dialogue construction, story writing, role assignment and finally the way to outplay the act. With creative expression, kids will sharpen their skills of storytelling and develop confidence. "I try to push children to mingle with each other and help them express their feelings through debating, writing, etc. The puppetry workshop is inspired by the popular television series Fraggle Rock. We've picked up a story from there, wherein the kids will not just design puppets and conduct the show, but will also learn some basic moral values," says Kapithra Kannapiran, the organiser. The camp starts on April 28 and will continue till June 13 at Koparkhairane.
