Restaurant Review: That Madras Place

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 21 Mei 2014 | 18.47

Finding a space to park our car outside That Madras Place was tough. It was worse to have someone tell us we were wrongly parked. Determination won. We found it, parked and trotted into the rather crowded restaurant feeling like we'd accomplished a life-changing feat and had worked up enough of an appetite.

Decor
Walking into the ground floor of a house, complete with garden, trees and natural lighting, I find myself smiling. I like the way they've put little slates with chalk-written menus all over the place, easy to wipe clean and change. Different kind of furniture, many colours, casual seating. A nice place to hang out.

Food
I must say this: I love how they serve their food and drinks. I see Vanilla Latte, which I promptly order. Of course, it's hot and good. We must have the Cucumber Tea to go with the food. Also because their drinks come in jars. But I'm disappointed. Turns out, the tea is a little too watery for me.

Before I get too critical, our starters arrive. The Parsley Fries are potato wedges sprinkled with parsley and taste yum. Prawn Popcorn comes in a bucket. It tastes as cute as it looks, crispy golden on the outside and meaty shrimp on the inside.
All thoughts of watery drinks are forgotten as the Southern Spice Fish comes in. It's different. In that, while the rest of the world is going crazy over Basa, this fish is Sole, and bursts with south Indian flavours, complete with being cooked in sesame oil.

For our vegetarian, we choose the Mushroom and Cream Ravioli in cream and butter sauce. Heavy? Of course. But it knocks those taste buds out of their senses. Obviously, mushroom, cream and butter in the right proportions do perfection make.
Dessert? We choose two. Blondie with ice cream and the Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake. I love Blondie with its nutty chunks, while everybody else drools over the totally loaded, creamy and sweet Chocolate Cake.

Pluses and minuses
I like the space, the black board menu with changing menus and that it's open through the day, but a huge minus is that there's no proper parking or even valets to help out.

Must try
The desserts are worth the calories and of course, the ravioli, if it's available.
