City boy Mirza Arique Alam, who graduated in media & communication last year, and is presently pursuing his master's in Mass communication made his debut as an author, with Will I Get My Smile Back? - his first novel, which is he describes as "almost a reflection of my own life". It is a tribute to my friend — Muskaan. The story is about two ardent lovers Rajat & Muskaan. The difference in religion causes massive havoc in their life but they try to cope up to it by standing by each other. Nevertheless, when friends and family turn foes, the relationship fail to survive for long! According to Mirza, "This book professes that love is beyond barriers of religion, caste, origin etc." The young author also said, "It is not a mere book but a tribute to my friend and I wish to nurse the hearts of millions of lovers who fell pray to such barriers. I want to reach out to the millions who consider societal norms to be more important than true love. The book is meant for all and sundry. Anyone who has fallen in love at least once in their life, would love reading this book. Be it the school friend, college professor, or the next door neighbor"
He credits friend Rahul Verma for introducing him to story books in the first year of his graduation. Out of all, love stories enticed him to the core. He could relate to the hardships lovers experienced when their family and friends did not respect their feelings. Turns out, he too went through heart-break due to societal norms and the book, by and large, is a reflection of his personal life with some amount of fiction weaved in. Mirza loves Urdu poetry as well and is an ardent fan of Mirza Ghalib. When TOI asked him about his next project/ book, he replied with a smile, "Well, my hands are itching to punch the keyword and develop a thriller based on Byomkesh Bakshi. But it's too early to say anything on that."
