Is the doughnut the new cupcake?

Sure, doughnuts have been around on the dessert table for a while now, but they were almost always relegated to the sidelines.

Now however, the iconic dessert is getting its due as it is increasingly taking over the top spot from other desserts. Owing to their small size and the sheer variety they are available in, doughnuts are being forecast as the new party dessert.

And now, according to reports, a new 'mini doughnut' has surfaced that might end up replacing the cupcake. With flavours ranging from caramel, sprinkles, chocolate, lemon and blueberry or even the simple doughnut with a sweet sugar glaze, there is no limit to the choices available. Plus, the many ways it can be served, i.e. with a coffee or even hot chocolate, it looks like the 'mini doughnut' has not only made its mark, but is also here to stay!
