If the boss is too hard on you, you may even suffer from health problems. But a new study has revealed that sucking up to the boss can help employees climb the corporate ladder more quickly and keep them away from psychological depression.
Marketing manager Dilip Padath tells us how he benefited at his job by creating a good rapport with his boss. He says, "When I joined my new job, I was really happy. But as time passed by, I realized how tough it was to work under my boss. It took me some time to understand his way of working and thinking." Padath says a little extra effort to keep the boss happy doesn't cost much. "Buying him/her expensive gifts or praising him for small things does wonders for many," says he.
IT professional Manvesh Sharma feels the same after having worked in a variety of positions. "This is my fourth job in my six year old career. After changing so many jobs I realized that it is always good to keep your boss happy. And, if your boss isn't happy with you then you never know when you could get dropped," says he.
But does that do well for all employees working in an organisation? Psychological counsellor Dr Nidhi Agarwal, feels, "Generally, a person feels happy as s/he climbs the ladder and the success rate is high. But, it can be very momentary. If the boss becomes unhappy with the person who is trying to appease him, then the whole thing can back fire. Everything you do has pros and cons."
If you and your boss are not able to get along, then it can have dire consequences. It can even bring down your morale and confidence. Content writer Anvesha Chaudhary tell us, "I had a bad rift with my boss a few months back. And from then on, I have lived my life miserably in the organisation. I used to get insulted by my boss in front of my colleagues for the smallest of things. It was very humiliating. My days were so bad that I was forced to put in my papers."
Manisha Kala, a trainee in a PR agency, feels, "I think it is very important to maintain the balance in your work life. A difference of opinions between the boss and the employee can lead to a lot of problems. So, always keep it simple with boss and avoid any kind of trouble."
The boss is someone who the employees look up to. For many, their bosses are their role models. Having a great rapport with him/her can certainly lead to a better work life at the office.
