USA has demonstrated that with firm action and steady investments, financial slowdowns can be swiftly defeated. There is daily talk of how it is time to remove the federal stimulus. Indian corporates need to take a leaf out of this; instead of cost cutting and reducing the number of employees, corporates need to be led by innovation and design. It must also take necessary measures to stimulate demand for Indian products worldwide. In the last few years, the production costs of goods and services is now tilting in favour of India over China, which is a good sign. The same shall serve well to provide jobs to the many graduates passing out of a number of universities across the country.

If I would want to see one change in corporate India, it would be to see companies work ethically. Starting from the lowest levels of hierarchy, corporate India must engage in changing systems and protocols to accommodate ethical practice. Instances of such unethical practices may be found in transferring information from one's previous organisation to their current one, in order to stay ahead of competition. Such a scenario creates a system of distrust and misuse. I strongly believe that creating a 'cleaner' environment, where work related information may be shared with high levels of transparency, will create an atmosphere, rich in principles and values. Corporate India cannot change overnight, but we must start somewhere and we must start now!

The traditional views of most businesses today don't capture the way great companies think. The intrinsic need for today's corporate world is to adopt an approach that focuses not only on financial returns, but also on emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence concerns effective management of the thoughts and feelings.
Expressing feelings appropriately allows people to work smoothly together towards achieving a common goal. A company's success is not measured solely in terms of its profitability, but also in terms of how it upholds the conditions that allow it to thrive. The ability to use your human resources in an appropriate manner that boosts productivity ensures continuity in profit and returns. Boosting the emotional intelligence of your employees through emotional engagement and valuebased leadership will allow them to bond better as a group, thereby contributing greater efforts towards achieving organisational goals.
Tushar Ramanan, business development manager, Venkys Nutrition (India)
The one big change which I would propose is that the corporate world starts focusing on the health and fitness of employees. Being from the fitness industry, I realise that basic health needs of a worker are often neglected. India is known as the diabetic capital of the world and it is now time for corporates to wake up and take note of this. The health of employees plays an important role in maintaining an effective, efficient and productive workforce. The corporate world needs to set up rules and regulations to make sure that professionals are fit.
