5 foods to eat around a bonfire

Winter is a time when you can gather around with your friends and family, light up a bonfire on your terrace or in your compound and enjoy a night of merriment.

But a bonfire is incomplete without munchies. Here are some must-eats when sitting around a bonfire.

Marshmallows: Available at most supermarkets these days, put these soft, white sweet treats on skewers and heat them in the flames. Crisp on the outside, melting from the inside, you can also dip marshmallows in a chocolate sauce.

Stuffed jacket potatoes: Everyone loves jacket potatoes. Stuff them with cheese and an Italian pesto dressing and bake them in the bonfire.

Corn: Who said bhutta only tastes good in the rains? Nothing beats the chilly winters as eating grilled corn on the cob in front of the fire.

Hot dogs: Hot dogs are always great for a bonfire as they cook fast. To cook them, skewer the side of the hot dog with a stick. One of the best ways to cook it is to put it close to the fire, not over it. If you put it over the flames you run the risk of burning your stick and the hot dog.

Bread and cheese: If you're in for some unhealthy binge, have chunks of cheddar, browned over the flames with a loaf of bread.
