In the parlance of colour, no shade signifies strength and power as clearly as black does. Perhaps, that's the reason why most powerful women characters in films, especially Hollywood ones, have typically been dressed from head to toe in black. A case in point is the upcoming sequel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, which will see Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence don all black as her character Katniss Everdeen.
From Angelina Jolie as Lara in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider to Kangana Ranaut as Kaaya in Krrish 3, black costumes have always done much more than simply highlight just the right curves. Remember Halle Berry in and as Catwoman and Anne Hathaway in the same role in The Dark Knight Rises? The ladies too went all black, adding just a dash of seductive red through their lip colour. Despite the oomph they oozed, the costumes afforded them the flexibility and ease of battling all the evil characters that came their way. Scarlett Johansson as Agent Romanoff in The Avengers was also a vision in black, being a part of the team as much as any other character.
When Kangana's costumes were being created for the Indian superhero franchise, there was a conscious effort to steer away from having just an all-black and red wardrobe. Metallic shades of black and silver were also chosen for her.
