Is showing extreme cleavage the in thing?

Hollywood celebs seem to have taken a liking towards displaying ample cleavage, but will it work in India?

What do reality TV star Kim Kardashian, model Miranda Kerr and singer-songwriter Vanessa White have in common? Their penchant for the extreme cleavage trend, which seems to have many takers of late. While Vanessa showed off her assets in a deep blue outfit at a promotional event at which she appeared with her The Saturdays band members, Kim made a daring appearance in a deep-cut black gown at a party in Paris. Meanwhile, Miranda was spotted in a low-cut white dress at an outing in Paris. However, fashionistas here say that the trend might not work in India.

"Daring necklines are in vogue at red-carpet events as that's the best place to start a trend, other than fashion weeks, of course. This is the easiest way to look hot and sexy," says Kolkata-based designer Amalraj Sengupta, adding, "Though Indian celebrities sport this trend sometimes, they tend to go wrong with how much skin they show."

The trend, though popular in the West, might have very few takers in India. Young designer Nishka Lulla says, "India is fairly conservative and I doubt that this trend will make much progress here, though a lot depends on the character and personality of the person. Especially well-endowed women might want to steer clear of it."

To sport this trend or not is a personal choice. "Not everyone in the West will show off a lot of cleavage, and it's the same in India. You have to be comfortable doing it. High-slit gowns were also very popular, but not everyone wears them. I feel one has to be comfortable and look classy to be able to carry it off," says model-turned-actor Pooja Chopra, who feels that people shouldn't follow trends blindly. "Sexiness has nothing to do with an outfit — to look sexy, you don't need to wear revealing clothes, you just need to feel it," she says, and signs off by saying, "Even the most stunning women in the world will not be able to carry off all trends, so sport trends that look good on you."

Tips to wear the trend

-Try it only if you are comfortable and confident of carrying it off. Don't try it just because it is in vogue.
-Since you will draw attention to your assets, make sure that they are in good shape.
-Dresses are the best outfits to wear if you're trying out the extreme cleavage trend.
-Opt for large chandelier earrings if you're wearing an outfit with a low-cut neckline.
-Wear you hair loose instead of tying it up to make yourself look more glamorous.
