Floor grazing skirts and maxis are having quite a moment right now. They are comfortable, feminine and stylish, blending all elements of fashion in one long package. This trend is flattering and has transitioned effortlessly from a summer style statement to a fall mantra.
Says fashion consultant Anne Mishra, "Choosing the right length is tricky, but once you get the proportion right, it is an incredibly easy wear. It also transitions well from party to formal wear."
Accessorising your maxi skirt well, more or less does the trick. Glamorous flats and a contrasting sling back with a messy, open hair will do the trick. You can also go for a simple monochrome maxi skirt with a headband and bangles or team it up with a jacket and high ponytail for a more rugged look. Colour blocking is the way to go this season.
"I like how comfortable and versatile this look is. You can play around with it and dress up or down without losing the element of style. They are comfortable and keep you cool in the heat," says college student Richa Tripathi.
How to wear
Contrary to popular belief, short girls need not avoid this stylish trend. In fact, with the right length, it accentuates your petite figure. If you still feel uncomfortable, there's the magic word — heels.
Strike the right balance: If your skirt is well fitting, opt for a looser blouse or jacket. Similarly, if the skirt has a full, busy print keep the accessorising minimal. A denim jacket is an all time favourite among most fashion geeks.
Experiment: Make the look yours and as personalised as it gets. Loose, slouchy sweaters, tank tops, denims. Belts can help flow the top and skirt into one. Fashion is all about going that extra mile and taking a risk, isn't it?
