It's excitement like at a wedding at Jade, which is considered a shopping destination for to-be brides.

The designers Monica Shah and Karishma Swali are launching their new collection, which is on preview today and tomorrow at their Peddar Road flagship store.

The Gompas of Ladakh, from the highlands of the Himalayas, are the inspiration behind their latest edition. Titled 'Aum Mani Padme Hum', the Bridal 2013-14 collection draws from these Buddhist spiritual fortifications of Learning, Lineage and Sadhana. "The Gompas exude serenity, simplicity, and celebration. The modern silhouettes from their latest collection draw from the architecture of these minimalist structures and the palette of dark reds, corals, jades, golden yellows, deep indigos, and golds draw from the stupendous art found inside the Gompa," explains Monica. Motifs and textures used in the collection are also inspired by the Gompa art.

"The absolute must-have this season is our signature multi-layered Lehenga which begins wide and narrows down towards the top, much like the layers in which the Gompas are built. The silhouette is simple, yet flattering," says Karishma.

'Our perennial muse is the modern Indian bride — independent and ambitious, and at the same time, proud and mindful of her heritage," adds Monica.
