Mumbai has its own water exercises too, like the aqua zumba. Says trainer Sucheta Pal, "It's a great cardio-conditioning, body-toning, and most of all, exhilarating beyond belief. It's also dance-based so people enjoy it. In this, you work double hard because there's two kinds of resistance acting on the body — gravity and buoyancy of the water. The body thus tones up faster. As you use more effort you can burn upto 500-800 calories an hour, or even more. You don't need to know swimming either and it is good for active older adults as the water acts as a cushion."
One may also get wet and fit through aqualates, which is another name for pilates in water. Trainer Deepali Jain says, "It strengthens the back and abs, which are core muscles. The workout is a great way to tone the butt and as you try and walk in water (do the Russian Walk) you use the hamstrings and thigh muscles. You can use a plastic 'noodle' equipment to jog, walk or try and run in water; it helps better a person's form. Aqualates can burn over 600 calories an hour," she informs.
