Make your groceries last longer

How many times have you had to throw away vegetables and fruits because you didn't store them properly?

Knowledge about which foods you should store together and at what temperature will not only help you make your groceries last longer but also keep them fresh and healthy.

As bizarre as it sounds, storing onions in pantyhose, makes them last longer, almost up to eight months! If you don't want to store them in pantyhose, you can use paper bags. Never use plastic bags, as mold will form on the onions. Store these in a dry place. If you want to store uncut onions, tightly wrap them in plastic wrap and keep them in the refrigerator.

For berries, wash them in a dilute vinegar solution (one part vinegar, ten parts water) before storing them in the refrigerator. From a week to two weeks, your berries will stay fresh for a long while, without getting soft or moldy.

If you plan on using lettuce for your salad, you need to prep it before storing it. Chop it accordingly, wash it and then place it in a bowl. Put a paper towel on it, so that it doesn't retain too much moisture. Cover tightly with a plastic wrap and store. This will definitely keep your salad lettuce fresh all week.
