No two ways about it! From artisan jewellery to animal inspired clothes and more, the savage trend is the glam word of the season, finds Ismat Tahseen

It's the fashion spillover of the new season - with it's staying power on top ramps and on celebrities like Beyonce, J Lo, Rihanna. From ethnic beads and shell embellishments to wild motifs, bright geometrics and accessories, tribal fashion rules. You have warrior-like dresses, skirts and tote bags, all reminiscent of the African bush abroad, and Indian designers Malini Ramani and Ritu Kumar gave earthier renderings to the trend too. Here's how the tribal look is set to influence your wardrobe/ get into your wardrobe....

Animal print: The safari trend's biggest arrival comes through in Masai and animal prints in rich silk and ikat. Michael Kors presented a jungle palette in python swimsuits, safari jackets, serapes, ponchos, camp shirts and khaki shorts while Missoni offered asymmetric hems, layers, frills, fringe and fabric all savagely stylish on the ramp.

Wild geometrics: Proenza Schouler dressed up the tribal notion with sharp geometrics in a palette of desert hues. Donna Karan's Spring Summer 2012 took everyone back to their primitive roots with sexy asymmetric cuts, earthy tones and slicked back hair on models. Her form-fitting silhouettes went haute with geometric bangles and hand-carved platform wedges that lent a tribal element to the theory. Tribal motifs were also disguised in Holly Fulton's vivid prints and patterns and J. Mendel used a touch of tribal with little geometric prints in shift dresses.

Natural textures: Mark Fast spelt out the summer aesthetics in his latest collection in sandy shades - an off-the-shoulder trailing top and skirt, a tassel gown that contoured the body in a rippling effect and a tiered dress that moved into gold fringing. The tribal patterned illusion also came out well in Marni's ladylike silhouettes and totem-like detailing on hemlines and wrists in their SS12 collection.

Accessories: All the fashion houses who have touched on the trend showed off accessories, but a standout was the fun-meets-wearable in LAMB's Spring 2012 pieces. Bright heels and bags accentuated the ethnic-patterned jumpsuits, tunics and dresses. In addition, Burberry Prorsum presented beaded sandals Michael Kors' medley of Africa-inspired prints on brown hued shoulder satchels, horn pendants, thick leather belts and heavy buckled sandals.
