Restaurant review: The Ship (Western)

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 22 Juni 2013 | 18.47

The ship has been around for a while but has recently had a make-over with new management.

Decor
The decor looks by and large the same only a bit spruced up with a nice black and white checker board tile floor and a juke box in the corner. Gone are the silly white sails and so should the curtains. It looks more like a classic pub now with a central wooden bar, some high tables and easy seating.

Food
The bar menu at Ship is quite long with a fabulous new cocktail selection done especially for the restaurant by a UK company. I tried their lime margarita and the spicy one with habanero chilli- both outstanding and served correctly, shaken with cracked ice. I am sure the mojitos, Captains specials, martinis, long island teas and daiquiris are as stunning. They also have a range of absinthe - that dreaded French fennel flavoured liquour which, I must say is more bark than bite and an extensive selection of tequilas including Patron and Don Julio. If you get to the food, you should order the barbecue, melt in the mouth, ribs and the fantabulous nachos. You don't need meat on the nachos at all although chicken and tenderloin versions are available. The tortilla chips are homemade with pico de gallo (a fresh salsa), jalapeno, sour cream and guacamole... all really scrumptious and authentic without dripping in cheese sauce. The wasabi prawns done tempura style and served with a mango salsa was also delicious. If you are into 'picking' try a mini burger or slider, poutine French fries served with gravy and cheese curd and their burgers. I must say their Captains beef burger with grilled onions, bacon, cheese, fried egg and onion rings was quite a whopper. Plenty in the Italian section for vegetarians. Children will love the oreo milkshake and their special children's menu. It is not surprising that this place is full of expats most days. It must be like a home away from home with the pub like ambience and food to match. I must say there is a huge improvement in the bar and food menu as well as the very accommodating service.

Plus & Minus:
Fabulous drinks and new bar menu. If anything, desserts need improvement.
