Here's how you can ensure that the birds in your locality can brave the summer sun

It's summer time and everyone's thirsty! Not just us, but our animal friends as well. While it's true that birds do not require as much water as mammals, they do lose a lot of water through respiration and require some water at least a couple of times during summer. So, this is the season when you can do your bit to help them battle out the blistering heat.

- Every morning, keep aside a bowl of water in your balcony or a place that's accessible to birds. In some families, there's the custom to keep aside rice for the crow before you start eating. If that's followed in your place, you could place the bowl somewhere near it.

- Make sure that the bowl is clean and you pour fresh water into it every day.

- As this is for our feathered friends, it's important to select a proper bowl that they can dip their beaks into.

- If you have space in your terrace/balcony, set aside a small place for birds to rest. An old shoe box stuffed with some hay could give them the shelter they crave for on a hot, sunny day.
