The long, hot summer has set in and it's time to take out the board games, carom boards etc to have some fun indoors. Everyone has some extra time on their hands and it's time to make the most of it by indulging in these simple pleasures, courtesy the soaring temperature outside.
"The heat outside is too much to handle and definitely calls for an indoor hobby. I share my apartment with two of my friends and we usually end up renting a movie. At times, we also go back to our childhood days by playing a game of chess or carom. At night, I spend quite a lot of time on the social networking sites, surfing the internet or chatting with friends online. Because of the rampant power cuts in the city, we also play antakshari in the evenings, after supper. We end up recollecting songs that we had not listened to in a long time. It feels good," says Santhosh S, marketing professional.
Sandhya Shekhar, who recently got married to a businessman, is experimenting with handicrafts. "Since it's difficult to venture out in the hot sun, I decided to take up embroidery and handicraft. One of my aunts teaches handicrafts to girls and women in our locality. I am learning crochet, fabric painting, glass painting and it's been very interesting. All it needs is two hours everyday and you can learn the craft in a matter of two weeks," she says.
While some are experimenting with different artisan craftsmanship, there are a few others who are content with the good old method of curling up with a book. "When you have a book, you don't have to worry about anything. All you need is a corner in your house, where you can curl up with a book and a story that can keep you hooked for hours. As a content writer, these books not only help me improve my vocabulary but also help me visualize better, which helps me on the job. Besides you don't even have to head to a shop to buy a book. You can order online and have a good time," says Sreelatha Maneeram.
These apart, Coimbatoreans also seem to indulge in indoor photography, gossip and also just hitting the sack. It looks like amusement is inside the walls of the house this summer.
