If fear of back ache is keeping you away from high heels, set your phobias aside!
Walking in high heels is not that difficult, and with a bit of practise, you'll be stepping out in stilettos in no time. Here's how...
- Practice just standing in high heels. Stand in front of a full length mirror, and check your posture. Just the act of merely standing in high heels will help remove some of your apprehensions, and let you get accustomed to the added height and weight on the heel.
- To cut down on the wobble factor, make sure the shoes fit properly before buying them, and strap them firmly on to your feet.
- The chunkier the heel, the more secure you will feel. The more spindly and strappy, the tougher they will be to teeter in. Do consider platform soles — they take the arch ache out of wearing tall shoes that have made super heights achievable. Take a few steps in your high heels. If possible, do this first on a hard floor.
- Keep your legs straight and as close together as possible. With each step, point your feet as straight in front of you as you can.
- Practise, practise, practise to get comfortable.
- When wearing high heels on a staircase, always use the rail if it is available, or at least be close enough to a rail that you can reach it if you need to. When climbing steps, your entire shoe heel and sole should land firmly at once on each step.
