Aren't we always looking up ways to look our best — finding out about the latest in fashion, to dress ourselves up in the most chic way possible? Why should our homes bear the same old look?

Shouldn't we also try and incorporate the latest trends and styles into our home decoration as well? Well, here are a few of the latest trends in home designing. Interior architect Nisha JamVwal says, "One of the most important things that people have woken up to, is realising that using skin and woods of endangered tree species is passe. Internationally people balk at our Indian insensitivity.

The trend now is to go green, eco-friendly and opt for recycled products and design. A mix of timeless ancient style intertwined with contemporary." TV personality Mini Mathur has used one of the latest trends of using contemporary style while doing up her dining room. "I have used benches instead of dining chairs on one side of my dining table. The dining area has a very English feel to it," she says.

Experts say that a quick way to change the look of your home is to use accessories to brighten it up. The monsoons are on and how, and most lifestyle stores are going on sale and that makes it the perfect time to shop. Interior designer Mallika Desai Thakkar says, "Look out for quirky and fun accessories like unusual wall-art, picture frames and other collectibles. Colourful table ware like hand-painted kettles, chai glasses, interesting and creative trays can liven up your living room and make your afternoon tea sessions brighter.

The way in which you use lights at home can make or break the look of your home. Nisha says that opulent dramatic lights that give off a glow are doing well. It is about flamboyance and drama. "You can also use water bodies at home with tiny garden-like additions to the water fall. These are not only therapeutic but also emanate a sense of peace and look and sound soothing," she adds.

Since the season is wet it is wise to avoid having your expensive carpets out. Mallika says, "Avoid using rugs and carpets on your floors. they tend to absorb moisture and feel damp making the room feel musty." And of course plenty of colour is very 'in'. Nisha says, "Use fuchsia, aubergine, teal and deep saturated colours at home instead of the beige, maroon and navy palette."
