You might have seen retro graphics in restaurants, on record labels or even your favourite perfume. But now, be prepared to step out in it — the new style diktat is to wear alphabets and words — in a variety of fonts — and numbers, too. So, if you have always feared falling into a fashion rut, here's how typography fashion can play saviour...

Be a 'wordsmith'

Want to rock the party the next time you're invited? Try leggings in Century Gothic font. Or to go wilder still, dress up plain denims in an oversized number; that's a rage abroad. Famous designer Giorgio Armani once said, "I've always thought of the T-shirt as the Alpha and Omega of the fashion alphabet," and that can't be truer with the new look. Graphic tees with the entire English alphabet and purses to match make for the 'it' look. There's no question of repetition either, as author Simon Garfield notes in his book of stories about fonts, "There are more than 100,000 fonts in use." So, ready to pull the letters out of books and into your wardrobe?

What is typography?

It is defined as the art and technique of printing with movable type. One may mix and match larger capital letters with lowercase ones to create mismatched style. Even guys are going in for it!
