With half the population battling the flu virus, it is easy to catch the virus. While feeling sick is terrible, you don't have to look ill. With these simple tips, you can look pretty even when you're under the weather.
Use soft tissues
When you're constantly blowing your nose, use soft facial tissues, which are gentle on the skin and don't irritate it. Don't try to save money by using rough tissues. Instead, opt for lotion-treated tissues, which will prevent your nose from turning red.
Use tea bags for puffy eyes
To get rid of under-eye bags, take two cold, wet tea bags and place them over your eyes for 15 minutes.
Sleep on propped-up pillows
When your nose is congested, you can end up looking puffy eyed. To combat this problem, keep two pillows under your head when you sleep, so that your head is slightly propped up. This will allow fluids to drain easily from your face.
Keep your eye cream in the fridge
Keep your tube of eye cream in the fridge. Not only will it be more effective and make you feel better faster, it will also reduce the puffiness.
Use a concealer
Hide a red nose and blotchy skin with a pigmented, opaque concealer. Make sure it is yellow-based and slightly paler than your skin colour.
Opt for mineral foundation
Avoid applying your regular foundation and face powder because it will look unnatural when you're sick and dehydrated. For a natural look, use a mineral foundation with a moisturiser. This will conceal well and not even make your skin look dry.
Use a little bronzer
It is normal to look pale when you're unwell. Ditch the pink blush, though, and opt for warm tones to add colour to your face. Use a little bit of bronzer or even a peach-toned cream blush.
Waterproof mascara only
When you're constantly sneezing, coughing and sniffing, it also leads to watery eyes. Stick to waterproof mascara to avoid smudging.
Keep drinking water
When you're ill, you're also probably dehydrated and this can show on your skin. Drink as much water as you can and apply ample amounts of moisturiser (twice a day) so that your skin doesn't look washed out.
Lip balm to the rescue
Take a warm, slightly damp washcloth and gently rub your lips with it. This will remove the flakes. Once you're done, apply a lip balm or petroleum jelly to soothe your lips.
