The new weekend getaway in the foothills of Thiruparangundram is becoming one of the busiest spiritual hubs these days. TOI speaks to Maduraites about why its so popular.

Apart from the famous Meenakshi Amman temple, Thiruparangundram. is a pilgrim's paradise and sees thousands of visitors every year. Like Alagarkoil, Thiruparangun-dram hill is a nature lover's dream. Prasanth, a regular visitor of the temple says, "The massive turnover of devotees throughout the year makes Thiruparangundram the busiest spiritual hub among south Indian pilgrimage centres. One of Lord Muruga's significant residences popularly known as the 'Saravana Poigai' is present in the hill. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Muruga is said to have born in Saravana Poigai. Added to this glory is the recently begun 'Thirukoil Eco Park' in the foothill of Thiruparangundram spread over seven acres."
People of the city and the outskirts have welcomed this innovative idea and are amazed by the infrastructure of the park. Leelavathi, a college lecturer, says, "The Eco Park is a splendid hotspot that one must visit with the family. It has a marvellous and pleasing atmosphere for devotees who visit the temple from across the country. The authorities have planned the entire area well, providing great facilities for the visitors. The most essential facility is the car parking area. Also the musical water fountain with its bright hues and the lights that dance in accordance with the water. We have started visiting this place every weekend and it has become our family's favourite getaway."
Peacocks are said to inhabit these hills inncluding rare albino peacocks.
Amala Devi, a resident of the nearby area says, "The visits of these peacocks in the green lawns of the Eco Park provide a wonderful treat to the visitors. Children in particular like seeing the monkeys that camper about here. The park has got so much space for children to play!"
Thatched gazebos are spaced evenly in the park premises to provide a shady resting places for visitors. Altogether this place deserves to be picnic hotspot for children and also a good resting spot for tired devotees.
