Raju to Pierre: I love, cherish and relish both extremes. I'm as excited about sitting on a makeshift plastic table and chair on a Dadar pavement as I am about dining with a world renowned legendary designer in his very first brand new swish restaurant in Paris. Both serve up good food and pleasure.

Raju's Malwani Corner: Beads of perspiration, traffic clogged gali in Dadar, eating lustily spiced Malwani food on the pavement... and you know you're at the right place. Narendra Govind Sawant (affectionately called Raju) and wife Sonali serve up home-cooked food (made to Raju's mother Gunavanti Sawant's own recipes and cooked at home). Having eaten here over 20 years ago (when Raju had just set up), I ate recently with Kunal Vijaykar and Chef Manjit Singh Gill, for a jury-tasting TV shoot for 'The Times Now Foodie awards' and tripped out on the fish fried to a crisp, coconut curries and more. Five-grain vades are fried fresh on the pavement as is the fish. It's the full-bodiedly spiced Sukka Mutton and Chicken that are the most popular. And the somewhat greasy but delicious Prawn Biryani (Full `80 and half `50) too. Ask for the freshly fried Surmai, Bombil, Bangada or Halwa. All dishes priced between `15 to 100. Vegetarians stay away. The lusty, garlicky Sol Kadi is a must have.

La compagine de britagne

This is the first time this internationally renowned designer Pierre Yves Rochon has opened his own restaurant. His design empire of luxury hospitality interiors (be it George V or restaurants of Michelin starred chefs like Alain Ducasse) spans the globe, Along with his son and elegant wife Annick, this new creperie (to promote Brittany) has Paris eating out of his hands. It's the perfect place to invite Kalyani Chawla of Christian Dior (looking sensational in a Christian Dior creation. of course), entrepreneur extraordinaire who has not only exported fashion to the biggest international houses but also published and edited magazines. The charming Bernadette Chevalier of La Maison Champs Elysees and the dynamic Paul Roll of the Paris Visitors and Convention Bureau also sparkle the evening. Whoa what a stunningly beautiful rendering and detailing of Brittany (music, paintings, products et al) in this four-floored, black and white stand alone historic house in St Germain. World's first cider collection in the 13th cellar. Superb savoury buckwheat galettes (Parsnip puree with mustard winter roots. Oysters, broccoli and curry, pears, blue cheese, walnuts, lamb, lettuce) outstanding sweet crepes (classic handmade salted butter and lemon curd, Chocolate mousse with orange marmalade) Affordable (15 Euros average meal), the offering of two sizes of crepes (small, large) makes it even better.
